doc.: IEEE /0096r0 Submission January 2008 Slide 2 Abstract This presentation is intended to describe the problem and possible solutions for LB108 CID #103.

doc.: IEEE /0096r0 Submission January 2008 Slide 3 Problem v’s MLME “Presence” (now “Location” in D1.03) primitives cause Tx and Rx timestamps to be captured, but provides no interface for making those timestamps available to higher layers

doc.: IEEE /0096r0 Submission January 2008 Slide v TDOA Location (formerly “Presence”) protocol

doc.: IEEE /0096r0 Submission January 2008 Slide 5 Need timestamp interface to SME: 6 Primitives (TGv D1.02) Add t1 and t4 in PRESENCEREQUEST.cfm Presence Request ACK t1 t4 t2 t3 t2 or t3-t2 are already included PRESENCERESPONSE.ind t2 or t3-t2 are already included PRESENCERE SPONSE.req

doc.: IEEE /0096r0 Submission January 2008 Slide 6 Need timestamp interface to SME: 4 Primitives (TGv D1.03) Location Request ACK t1 t4 t2 t3 Add t1 and t4 in LOCATION.confirm. t2 or t3-t2 are already included LOCATION.confirm t2 or t3-t2 are already included in LOCATION.response already

doc.: IEEE /0096r0 Submission January 2008 Slide 7 6 Primitives vs. 4 Primitives for Location MLME With 6 Primitives, MLME can pass t1 and t4 to SME when the ACK for Location (Presence) Request frame is received, via PRESENCEREQUEST.cfm With 4 primitives, MLME must keep state for t1/t4, wait for Location (Presence) Response frame, and then pass t1/t4 along with t2/t3-t2 to the SME, via LOCATION.confirm –Introducing the implementation complexity in MLME to keep t1/t4 until the Location Response frame is received. In this regard, 6 primitives provide a simpler implementation in the MAC than 4 primitives, for Location service.

doc.: IEEE /0096r0 Submission January 2008 Slide 8 Proposed Changes Use 6 primitives for Location MLME –Switch back to 6 primitives (as defined in TGv D1.02) for Location MLME Add parameters to pass timestamps: –Add the timestamp of transmitting Location Request frame (TX Timestamp, t1) and the timestamp of the ACK in response to the Location Request Frame (RX Timestamp, t4) in LOCATIONREQUEST.cfm(). This will allow higher-level entities access to these timestamps in a defined manner Normative text is proposed in 08/0047r0.
