TEPSE SA_ Thessaloniki _ Tecumseh Embraces the Transition to Hydrocarbon Refrigerants Refrigerant policy

Project scope is a New Platform for AE / TP / TW Compressors Today Tecumseh offers three fractional horsepower compressor platforms for LBP, MBP and HBP commercial refrigeration applications, they are the AE, TP and TW. What AE2 will bring to Europe :  Best in Class Efficiency  Back to competitiveness  Innovation image i.e. Propane R290 Targeted market : Soft-serve ice cream, Ice makers, Commercial freezers, Bottle coolers, Display cases, Sanitary hot water… Compressors & CU TEPSE SA_ Thessaloniki _ 20112

3 Why Tecumseh has chosen R290 for commercial refrigeration?  It is an environmentally friendly refrigerant Non Ozone depleting (Zero ODP) Very low impact on global warming:  GWP=3, versus R404A= 3700, R134a=1200 Non toxic Reduced energy consumption: -5% to -10%versus R404A  It improves the reliability of refrigeration systems: R290 is a pure refrigerant: not a mixture, no glide… Lower discharge temperature/ R404A  It is an economical solution: No major modification versus R404A refrigeration systems. Natural refrigerant, highly available.  Flammability is manageable for small medium refrigeration appliances: Safety issues can be easily overcome by the use of simple guidelines

TEPSE SA_ Thessaloniki _  CO2 CO2 requires important and costly modifications of refrigeration system. Efficiency improvement is not always demonstrated, especially on small systems. CO2 is not the good candidate for small and medium size refrigeration. However, it may be acceptable for large systems R600a R600a is also a good candidate. However it’s smaller volumetric capacity, and higher pressure ratio, limits it to very small refrigeration capacity systems like domestic refrigerators and freezers. R290 versus other low GWP refrigerants
