What is a spreadsheet? Spreadsheets are set up like tables with information running across rows and down columns. You could enter your assignments in one vertical column. Then you could enter the grade or score you received on each assignment in the next column. The spreadsheet could add up all the scores and calculate your average. When an assignment is returned to you, you could add it to the spreadsheet, and your average would be updated automatically. Just think how long it would take you to do this if you did it by hand!

1.Spreadsheet= a software program used for processing numbers that are stored in tables, such as budgets or financial statements 1.

3. Cell= the box on a worksheet where each column and row meet 3.Celda= cuadro de una hoja de trabajo donde se cruzan una columna con una fila

4. Cell address= a unique name by which each cell on a worksheet is identified 4.dirección de celda= nombre único que identifica una celda de hoja de trabajo

5. Active cell= the highlighted cell in use in a spreadsheet application 5.celda activa= celda resaltada que está en uso en una hoja de cálculo

6.Formula= a mathematical expression used to link and perform calculations on numbers in worksheet cells 6.Fórmula= expresión matemática que sirve para vincular y realizar cálculos de cifras en celdas de hojas de trabajo

7.Function =a commonly used formula that is built into a spreadsheet program 7.Función= fórmula de uso común que se desarrolla en un programa de hoja de cálculo

8.Value= a number, such as a whole number, a fraction, or decimal label= text or a combination of numbers and text typically used for titles or explanation in a worksheet 8.

11. Chart= a graphical image, such as a pie or a set of columns, used to visually display numerical data, making it easy to understand and analyze 11.

13. Order of evaluation=the rule that tells a spreadsheet program which operation to do first in a multiple-operation formula 13.

1. In a spreadsheet program, “C3” would be an example of this. cell address

2. In a worksheet, the cell that is currently in use is called the _____ cell. active

3. Messages from the program appear in this part of the worksheet. status bar

4. This is a commonly used formula, which is already built into a spreadsheet program. Function

5. This can be text alone or a combination of numbers and text. label

6. After you edit a cell’s data, you can press this key to place it back in the cell. Enter

7. This type of chart shows how parts relate to the whole. pie

8. When you write a formula, you start it with one of these to identify it as a formula. symbol

9. Which of these formulas divides 7 by 3? =7/3

10. The term cell reference is another name for this. cell address

11. Spreadsheets are used primarily for numerical data. True

12. When you use a spreadsheet program, your data goes into a special kind of document called a table. False

13. The status bar appears above the menu bar at the very top of the worksheet. False

14. Using the keyboard’s arrow keys, you can move in any direction in a worksheet. True

15. A formula is a mathematical expression. True

16. Although you can format a worksheet in many ways, you cannot add rows or columns. False

17. If you see a set of symbols such as ##### or ***** in a cell, it means that the cell is too large to display the value you have typed into it. False

18. In a worksheet, labels are typically used for headings or explanations. True

19. Spreadsheets can display dates in only one format, such as False

20. You can move data from one cell to another by dragging it. True

21. What makes up a cell address? The address is made simply by taking the letter of the column and the number of the row that meet to make the cell.

22. When you type a formula, where does it appear? The formula appears in the formula bar but not in the active cell.

23. How do you use the AutoFill feature in a spreadsheet program? To use this feature, you usually have to type only the first item in the series.

24. When you type a formula in a spreadsheet program, why must you start by typing a special symbol? Then it does the others in order, from most to least important

25. Spreadsheet programs follow a special rule called the order of evaluation. What is the purpose of this rule? This rule tells the program to do the most important operation first.

1.Both spreadsheet and word processors can be used to make tables. Which kind of programs would be more effective for making a budget for producing a movie? Why? The spreadsheet because it can track information easily.

2. How are cells identified in a worksheet? Why does this method work for all cells? Located in the upper left corner just above the frame. An area that shows the cell address of the cell that is active.

3. What appears in a cell when you enter a formula in it? It appears add numbers

1.Fill in the missing information about spreadsheets below by writing in the spaces provided. Parts of a worksheetFunction Frame Forms the top and left borders of worksheet Active cell Cell currently in use Cell identifier Shows the cell address of the cell that is active Formula bar Displays what you type Scroll bar Scroll and see the other part of worksheet Worksheet tabs Shows the other worksheets Status bar Displays messages from the program

1. How do you enter data using the AutoFill feature? You usually have to type only the first item in the series.

2. Where in the spreadsheet do you edit data? What action confirms that the edit is done? It is within the formula bar. Press Backspace or Delete to remove characters, or type to add them. Press Enter to place the edited information in the cell.

3. What is one instance in which you would use the print area option and another instance when you would not? When you want to print a picture or whatever you choose to print. When you don’t have a heading for columns.

1. Complete the Venn diagram below. Write facts true only of values in the appropriate area. Write facts only of labels in the appropriate area. Write facts true of both types of data in the area labeled both ValuesBothLabels Are align to the rightIf it overlaps you can widen Are align to the left Are typically used for heading or explanations

1. How does the order of evaluation affect the way formulas are calculated? Well it dose the most important to least important.

2. Why do you think it is better to use cell references than values when writing formulas? If you use a value you can type the wrong formula. Cell reference will correct the wrong type formula.

3. What is the simplest way to add the following cells:B1,B2,B3,B4 AND B5? B1+B2+B3+B4+B5.

1. Operations that formulas are expected to carry out are shown in the left column of this chart. In the right column, write the formula as it should appear in a spreadsheet’s entry line. OperationFormula Multiply B1 and B2 and add B3.(B1 *B2)+B3 Divide C2 by the total of C4 and C5. C2/(C4+C5) Add D7 and D9 and then multiply by4 (D&+D9)*4
