“Welcome!” Working Towards Goals for Level 1 learners Unit 11 (E3): Personal and Social Development

Week 1 The aim of this session is to become familiar with the tutorial programme you will be following this academic year. Links to Personal and Social Development Unit: 11 Working Towards Goals

By the end of this unit you will be able to: Demonstrate how to access LEAP and Moodle. Recognise your skills and where you need to improve. Recognize your preferred learning style via Moodle and how this can aid your studies this year. Set 2 college related short-term targets. Identify support services within the college which can help you achieve your goal. Review the targets you have set.

Welcome to Level 1 Tutorial Throughout this year you will be using both LEAP and Moodle to help you with your studies. You will be using Tutorial Moodle throughout the year within this lesson (but you can access it both within or out of college). Activities and resources will be found here to support you both personally and with your learning.

LEAP LEAP (Learner Engagement and Progression) is available for you and other authorised people to monitor your progress during the academic year.

Getting to know each other and the course! Throughout this academic year you will be continually setting yourself targets and goals to achieve. In order to set these goals it is important to be able to identify your personal strengths and weaknesses, so the targets you set are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timed)

Discussion (1.1): What kind of strengths and weaknesses can you think of that relate to; Education? Work experience? Life experiences?

SWOT Analysis (1.1) Complete Activity 1 in your e-book Consider your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT). Think about personal skills and qualities gained from education, work experience and life experiences. E.g. Strengths - good computer skills 10 minutes………..
