A1 a Pupils reach high standards of attainment in Geography

A1a Pupils have good knowledge and understanding, appropriate for their age, of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, the Earth’s key physical and human processes and key geographical concepts such as interdependence and interconnections. Justification: The KS3 curriculum has been reviewed in order to make the curriculum appropriate for each group and to cover a good balance of physical and human processes. In each topic we cover details about peoples use of resources and particularly the idea of interdependence and interconnections. An example of changes to the curriculum at KS3 have been the introduction of topics including Crime and Conflict and the Geography of Disease to provide opportunities to consider interdependence. We have also added Rocks and Landscape to cover Geology and Tectonics laid out in the curriculum. A1a: Pupils have good knowledge and understanding, appropriate for their age, of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, the Earth’s key physical and human processes and key geographical concepts such as interdependence and interconnections. New KS3 curriculum has greater emphasis on diverse places and interdependence. GCSE and A Level students also encounter a wide range of places, environments and processes. Example case studies include China, Antarctica, Spain, Kenya, Haiti and Japan. It is common practice to discuss parallel examples in places that students themselves are familiar with, especially as each class has a wide range of different nationalities.
