NUTRITION Laura Herrero.

The importance of nutrition:  Nutrition is the set of processes through which the organism receives, processes and uses the substances which it obtains from food.  There are two important types of nutrients: Macro-nutrients: Are the majority components of food. They are proteins, glucids or sugars & lipids or fats. Water & fibre are usually included in this group too. Micro-nutrients: Are substances which are present in very small quantities in food but which are also necessary for us. Micro- nutrients vitamins & minerals.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MY DIET & THE COUNTRY WHERE I LIVE I think I have a varied diet because in Spain there are plenty of different foods. So we can have a varied diet almost every day. And also most pf the restaurants that are here aren’t fast food ones, and this is very important for our diet. Also our climate is essential for the food because all the vegetables need a rainy climate to grow properly.

IMPORTANCE OF QUALITY OF FOOD The quality of food is really important for us because most of the persons that eat for example fast food, they have more posibilities than a person that has a varied & natural food, to suffer obesity. Because fast food is in 50% fats. And all these fats plug our arteries and we can suffer cholesterol & other illneses.

IMPORTANT VITAMINS Vitamins and minerals are substances that are found in foods we eat. Your body needs them to work properly, so you grow and develop just like you should. When it comes to vitamins, each one has a special role to play. For example: Vitamin D in milk helps your bones.bones Vitamin A in carrots helps you see at night.see Vitamin C in oranges helps your body heal if you get a cut.cut B vitamins in leafy green vegetables help your body make protein and energy.protein

ILLNESSES RELATED WITH THE NUTRITION  Anorexia nervosa is one of the principal illnesses with youths between the ages of 14 and 18. However, it can also affect adult women and men. People with anorexia are obsessed with being thin - they starve themselves to achieve this. They believe that they are fat even though they are very thin. It is a mental illness as it is an attempt to use food and the concept of weight to deal with emotional problems.

Bulimia  Bulimia nervosa, usually referred to as bulimia, is defined as uncontrolled episodes of overeating (bingeing) and usually followed by purging (self- induced vomiting), misuse of laxatives, enemas, or medications that cause increased production of urine, fasting, or excessive exercise to control weight. Bingeing, in this situation, is defined as eating much larger amounts of food than would normally be consumed within a short period of time (usually less than two hours). Eating binges occur at least twice a week for three months and may occur as often as several times a day.

Lack of vitamins In most cases, the lack of a vitamin causes severe problems. The following list shows diseases associated with the lack of different vitamins:  Lack of Vitamin A: Night blindness, xerophthalmia  Lack of Vitamin B1: Beriberi  Lack of Vitamin B2: Problems with lips, tongue, skin,  Lack of Vitamin B3: Pellagra  Lack of Vitamin B12: Pernicious anemia  Lack of Vitamin C: Scurvy  Lack of Vitamin D: Rickets  Lack of Vitamin E: Malabsorption of fats, anemia  Lack of Vitamin K: Poor blood clotting, internal bleeding
