Study Committee A3 HIGH VOLTAGE EQUIPMENT Technical activities & discussion items First meeting in Arnhem, October 2014: 5 members present but an inspiring meeting with main focus on system and (generator) protection behavior. Exchange of much literature, standards, instructions, tutorials, grid-codes, etc. Note: many corresponding members and many young members, but 8 utility members and 3 from university/research (6 manufacturers). Still asking for members from Canada (HQ, Hydro-One). Maybe a new member from Sweden. Special attention for large disturbances, where systems fell apart with afterwards a number of mis-synchronization events. Also for small disturbances that happen quite often, but here nomenclature still forms a problem. Further the requirements for generator protection (and the generator itself), where a balance has to be found between saving the power system and saving the power plant (is pole slip allowed for and how many?). This is a preferential subject for the SC B5 Session in CIGRE SC A3 meeting in Paris, August 26, 2014 Page No. 2 JWG A3/B5/C4.37
