Anatomy & Physiology

Materials  Gloves, Apron, Goggles  Scissors, scalpel, forceps, probe  Tray & grassfrog  Safety Reminders:  Tie back long hair  Spit gum out  Never hold specimen in your hand while cutting  Always cut away from yourself

Step 1: Skin Frog  Do not cut too deep  Skin frog torso and appendages  You can leave frog skin on the head intact

 Photograph and Identify homologous skeletal muscles  HW: Print and hand label with ALL members names on it

Muscles required to identify:  Deltoid  Pectoralis  Triceps brachii  Rectus abdominis  External obliques  Adductor  Sartorius  Gastrocnemius  Gluteus

Additionally:  Cut through the ventral muscles to veiw internal viscera  Identify as many internal organs as possible  Black and white eggs in the abdominal cavity are characteristic of female frogs  In males the testes are attached to the kidneys

Reason to dissect further….

Interesting Frog Facts:  Males attract females by croaking by fresh water  During Amplexus, the male frog climbs on the females back and wraps his arms around her to stimualte her to lay eggs, he fertilizes the eggs externally

Clean UP  All frog tissues should be disposed of in large trash can  Rinse tray and tools  Spray tray and tools  Dry and return tray and tools to cart  Spray and wipe lab table and sink  Grab review sheets (2) to complete
