Fourth Grade Five Senses Poetry

 GPS:ELA4W2 The student demonstrates competence in a variety of genres. C. Creates an organizing structure.  PLO: Students will plan a five senses poem by using a graphic organizer.

Incorporates each of the five senses or simply one sense to describe a topic o hear, see, smell, taste, touch Usually at least five lines long, but may have more

 I hear…  I see…  I smell…  I taste…  I touch…

 Complete the Five Senses Poetry Graphic Organizer individually.  Use the graphic organizer to create your own five senses poem.

 GPS:ELA4W4 The student consistently uses a writing process to develop, revise, and evaluate writing. a. Plans and drafts independently and resourcefully.  PLO: Students will draft a five senses poem.

 Allows students to communicate their ideas creatively  Students use their five senses to write about a topic  Usually five lines, but may have more

“Writing stage”  expands the ideas in the graphic organizer  take the words and phrases and make complete sentences  focus on content, not on spelling or punctuation

Spring In spring I see green leaves. In spring I hear blue jays calling. In spring I feel warm again. In spring I taste pink lemonade. In spring I smell cherry blossoms.

 Use the graphic organizer to draft a five senses poem as a class.  Each of the five senses on the graphic organizer will be used for one line of the poem.

 Write a five senses poem rough draft using your completed graphic organizer from the prewriting assessment.
