Where was your child before wilderness? Where does Wilderness fit in to the Continuum of Care? What is the wilderness “Peak Experience?” Why isn’t wilderness enough treatment? What do you mean we should expect them to relapse after wilderness? What does that mean? Then what? What is aftercare?
1) I feel angry, confused, and unloved when you tell me I can’t come home after Open Sky. 2) I imagine I feel this way because I have worked so hard here. I am not lying to you anymore, and I admit that I have an alcohol problem. I believe I am ready to come home. 3) In the future, I hope that you see how much I have grown, and I hope that I can accept and understand your decision.
“You will have a chance to see the emotions you feel in other families and in yourself. You can realize that you are not alone in the pursuit of health for your child.” (OS Parent, 10/14/12) “Not only was it beneficial to me personally, but it really helped me connect to what my son is experiencing and doing in the program which has really helped to alleviate my anxiety about him being in a wilderness program so far away from home.” (OS Parent, 10/14/12)
“It is essential to participate in Wellness Weekend. The experience will give you tools to help you take better care of yourself which will help improve your relationships. Also, it will help you understand the experience your child is having so you will be better equipped when you reunite.” (OS Parent, 10/14/12) “It was an awakening to how I felt and how that influenced how I reacted to my child. It helped me understand why my child was reacting to me.” (OS Parent, 10/14/12)
