Social responsibility (a) as an enlightened citizen (b) as a competent S&T professional - Appreciating the all-prevailing interconnectedness and mutual complementarity - Individual ‘good’ being inseparably connected with common ‘good’

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AS ENGINES OF MODERN DEVELOPMENT As you are well aware, Science & Technology are playing very significant role in modern development -for widespread prosperity and welfare of people. Proliferation of technology and industries have also made strong impact on environment and life-styles of people which is not conducive to sustainable welfare

GREAT RESPONSIBILITY AND CHALLENGE FOR S&T PROFESSIONALS By taking admission in IIT, you have decided to follow a career path which may be related to development/ promotion/ management and intensive utilization of S&T. This stream of profession has acquired significant value and it also places great responsibility and challenge for S&T professionals.

Leadership Role as Scientists, Technologists &Technocrats As intellectuals of high calibre and as well- trained technical personnel, you will be expected to play a leadership role in various capacities throughout your professional life. Accordingly, your worldview will appreciably affect not only your own life but also that of many, many others!

As leaders in the profession, you will be expected to contribute towards the development of eco-friendly and people- friendly technologies and models for alleviation of poverty of masses without depletion of resources. Ethical utilization of your skills will only prove your professional excellence and will be instrumental in the welfare of the society.

NEED FOR HOLISTIC PERCEPTION TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT It is very important for you to develop a holistic vision and an understanding to work in harmony with Nature in a renewable, sustainable manner. Also, the fruits of development should be sustainable and should benefit the poor masses as well.

UNDERSTANDING PROSPERITY AND WELFARE IN A HOLISTIC WAY SUSTAINABLE PROSPERITY can be actualized only by appropriate identification of our physical needs and developing technologies to fulfill these needs in harmony with Nature and Society at large. Developing ability to discriminate clearly between NEED and GREED. Welfare is not confined to providing some physical comforts only.

RESPONISBILTY FOR INDIGENOUS DEVELOPMENT Strong need to indigenously develop appropriate technology and model to suit the need of our country. Developing effective channel for carrying new technologies to the field. Contributing to and promoting Innovations and creative solutions.
