W HEN I S T HE O LYMPICS 2  Every 4 years (every leap year) the Olympics are held. This year the Olympics starts on the 27 th of July to the 12 th of August.  There are lots of games that all of the world can play (only if they are good enough) to get medals.

W HO STARTED THE O LYMPICS The Olympics were started by the Greeks over 2,700 years ago. The Games were held in Olympia, Greece before going every where in the world. 3

T HE O LYMPIC T ORCH AND F LAME 8  The Olympic torch is not allowed to go out.  There is a different torch every year.  This year one is lit then it lights another and then to 5 more and then they light the flame.  This year the flame’s style is top secret.

T HE O LYMPIC OATH FOR ATHLETES  The Olympic oath is where all the athletes say that they will not cheat in the Olympics and that the judge will not cheat and everything is fair.  The Olympic oath for athletes is: In the name of all the competitors I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them, committing ourselves to a sport without doping and without drugs, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams. 10
