John 2:1-2 “The Wedding at Cana” “New Creation” John 1:1 = “In the beginning … …” new creation new life new birth (John 3 – Nicodemus) “re-generation”

“New creation” “From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he* is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself … (2nd Corinthians 5:16-18 ESV).

“New creation” “Therefore, from now on, we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is* a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. (2nd Corinthians 5:16-17 NASB Updated). *Or, “there is a new creation”

New Creation Matthew 19:28, “Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, I say to you, in the new world (literally: in the regeneration), when the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones…” “…in the new creation, when the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne…”

“New Creation” Isaiah 43:18-19, “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.”

“New Creation” Isaiah 35:1-2, 6 “The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus … They shall see the glory of the LORD, the majesty of our God … For waters break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.”

“New Creation” Isaiah 65:17-23 “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy, and her people to be a gladness … .”

“New Creation” Isaiah 66:22-23 “For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make shall remain before me, says the LORD, so shall your offspring and your name remain …all flesh shall come to worship before me, declares the LORD.”

“New Creation” Isaiah 25:6-9 “On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death forever; and the LORD God will wipe away tears from all faces … … Let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”

“New Creation” Revelation 19:7 “Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, And his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure” – And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.”

“New Creation” Revelation 21:1-5 “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.”

John 2:1-11 The Wedding at Cana But first …. John 1:1-18 = The Prologue (“In the beginning...”) John 1:19-28 = Day 1 Day 1 (first day of the week) = __________ John 1:29, “The next day…” (day 2) = __________ John 1:35, “The next day…” (day 3) = __________ John 1:43, “The next day…” (day 4) = __________

John 2:1-11 The Wedding at Cana John 2:1, “On the third day …” …… “third day” – a day of special revelation in the Old Testament Genesis 22:4 (Abraham & Isaac) Exodus 19:11 (Mt. Sinai) “on the third day” sounds like _____________ . “Third day” from crucifixion, counting in the ancient Jewish way of counting inclusively: (1) Friday – (2) Saturday – (3) Sunday Good Friday – Holy Saturday - Easter

John 2:1 John 1:19-28, Day 1 (first day of the week) = Sunday John 1:29, “The next day…” (day 2) = Monday John 1:35, “The next day…” (day 3) = Tuesday John 1:43,“The next day…” (day 4) = Wednesday John 2:1, “On the third day…” counting inclusively from Wednesday Wednesday – Thursday – Friday Friday is the 6th day of the week.

John 2:1 Friday is the 6th day of the week. What happened on the 6th day (Friday) of the creation week? creation of man and woman the first wedding wedding preceded by creation of woman out of the side of Adam …(blood and water) God’s work of creation brought to completion by the marriage of man and woman

John 2:1 Friday is the 6th day of the week. What happened on the 6th day (Friday) of the last week of Jesus’ earthly ministry? crucifixion spear thrust into side (blood and water) symbolizing: the creation and purification of his Bride, the Church, out of his Body (the Body of Christ)

And they will live happily ever after. John 2:1 Ephesians 5:25ff “….Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.” Six water jars turned into wine 6 (imperfect number); water, Jewish purification wine: the feast of the Kingdom through the blood of the Lamb  The Marriage Supper of the Lamb to be celebrated in the New Creation. The completion of the New Creation will be the consummation of the marriage between the True and Sinless Adam and his True and Sinless Bride, the New Jerusalem, the Church of Jesus Christ, the “Body of Christ,” formed from his own body and blood on the cross. The eternal Son of God will have a sinless Bride for all eternity. And they will live happily ever after.
