K – 5 Grade Level Objectives for Library Media Develop appreciation and self-motivation as a reader. Determine and select materials appropriate to personal abilities and interests. Understand and use the library as an information and pleasure reading source. Collaborate and share knowledge of information and literary sources

Lessons and Activities Select books to support classroom learning - using picture walks, words, “5 fingers” Participate in read-aloud, storytelling, and book talking. Book Advisory Use of Online Catalog (Destiny) to choose a book. Digital storytelling Book Reviews Genre and award-winning books Literacy promotions / displays

Collaboration with Classroom Teachers Book Exchange ◦ Grade 2-5 teacher comes to Book Exchange and helps students choose their books. Support Reading Curriculum  Assist in finding high interest books that supplement leveled collections.  Help students towards independence in selecting and locating books in the library.  Create booklists appropriate to curriculum needs. Reading for enjoyment / create lifelong readers

How do we accomplish this? Read-Alouds, Storytelling and Book Talks ◦ K-1 Storytelling ◦ 2-5 Book Talks Help students find a book that they can read and enjoy. Urge students to read books they might overlook.

How do we accomplish this? Independently search and locate books using the online catalog – Destiny. Since September 2010, Glenville students have taken out over 15,000 books from the Glenville School Library.
