2 Scholarship Program 3 Primary Scholarship Sources 1.High School Scholarship Program (HSSP) High School Seniors All 4-year offers (some convert to 3-year offers) 2.In-College Scholarship Program (ICSP) Competitive Programs (ICLS and ICSP Phases 1, 2, & 3) Fully-Qualified programs (Express/NSP/HBCU/HSI/CTAS) 3.Enlisted Commissioning Programs (ECP) Airman Scholarship and Commissioning Program (ASCP) Scholarships for Outstanding Airmen to ROTC (SOAR) Professional Officer Course-Early Release Program (POC-ERP) Airman Education and Commissioning Program (AECP)

3 Why do we have a scholarship program? Meet officer production needs in specific fields for the Air Force Authorization: 10 U.S.C Requires 50% to receive in-state tuition rate Sets max at 4 years except in SAF-approved majors (5th year funding) Sets maximum age limit (must be under age 31 on Dec 31 of commissioning year) Side Note Stipend is a military pay authorized by 37 U.S.C. 209 for contracted cadets—not a scholarship! Purpose

7 High School Scholarship Program Target Audience High School Seniors Targeting Technical Majors (70%) Foreign Languages and Non-Technical Majors (30%) High Academic Achievement 1100 SAT 24 ACT 3.00 Unweighted GPA Top of Class Excel in AP/Honors Coursework Strong Leadership Potential Extra-curricular activities Demonstrated communication skills (interview) Reference only – normal minimums to be competitive

9 High School Scholarship Program Eligibility Requirements Academics SAT/ACT Scores Unweighted GPA AP Courses Class Standing Fitness Physical Fitness Assessment Height/Weight Check Other LAW: US Citizen at time of activation; 17+ years old at time of activation; commission before age 31 POLICY: no full-time college, no single parents Academic Composite Score: Formula considers these factors

10 Step #1 Student Applies

11 Step #2 Student becomes eligible Applicants must fax to RRUC: An original certified official high school transcript (grades 9th through 11th) ACT or SAT test scores Physical Fitness Assessment Letter of Certification One-page resume Extracurricular Activities Sheet must be obtained and postmarked to the High School Scholarship Section by Jan, 2008 Highly recommended that all mail sent to the High School Scholarship Section be sent via return receipt mail

12 Step #3 Det Interviews Start with a detachment tour Put the applicant at ease Best to start with hobbies/interests Make sure to get the height/weight Mom & Dad can sit in on the scholarship process discussion Fill out the Form 35 and 23 Start with the resume and go from there Follow the checklist in the Det Guide Book

13 Prior to Activation Become a citizen of the United States prior to scholarship activation Graduate from a high school or have an equivalent certificate Be at least 17 years old Be under 31 years old Prior to the fall academic term, cannot be enrolled full time at a college or a university except a the joint high school/college program Cannot be a single parent--waivers may be requested from HQ

18 In-College Scholarship Program In-College Commander’s Leadership Scholarship (ICLS) Det/CC has 1 ICLS Offer Applicant must attend host or cross-town school cum GPA, any major AS 100 only PFT Required DODMERB physical must at least be scheduled No pending waivers Type depends on academic major Type 1 for Tech majors (Tiers 1, 2, or 3) Type 2 for all other majors (Tier 4) Must be nominated via WINGS by 28 Feb
