 Introductions  College Credit Plus (CCP) Defined  Eligibility: Who? And Options  Advantages and Considerations  Graduation Requirements  Scheduling  CCP Pathways  Academic Credit: From CCP to NHS

 Weighted Grades  Failure or Withdrawal from CCP course(s)  Extracurricular and Athletics  Counseling: High School and College  NHS PSEO/CCP Statistics  Steps to Follow  Questions?

 CCP replaces Ohio’s Post-Secondary Enrollment Options program (PSEO) and all alternative dual enrollment programs previously governed by Ohio Revised Code Chapter  CCP program operational 2015/16 school year.  CCP program allows college-ready students, grades 7-12, an opportunity to earn college and high school graduation credit through the successful completion of college courses.  The purpose of the program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and expose students to options beyond the high school classroom.

 College-ready students grades 7-12 who qualify for college admission.  College Credit Plus requires two fundamental conditions: 1.) Students must be enrolled in both college and high school. 2. ) Student earns transcripted college and high school credit upon successful completion of the course. Transcripted credit is recognized on the student’s college transcript upon successful completion of the college course. The high school student is enrolled at the college at the time the student is taking the college course.

Option A:  Student earns high school and/or college credit  Cost of program is funded entirely by student and their family  Tuition and fees are paid directly to the university  Student can attend Fall, Spring or Summer Option B:  Student earns both high school and college credit  No cost to student and their family unless student earns a grade of W, F, NF, SF  Costs are funded by the state and school district  Student can attend Fall or Spring Term only

 Intent form must be signed by March 30 th to participate the following school year.  Students and parents must attend a mandatory information session and sign forms.  Students secure admission requirements and deadlines from post- secondary institution of their choice.

 Curriculum is expanded: Choose from a wider variety of courses.  Academic challenge and opportunity for concentrated study in areas of special interest.  Chance to experience college-level work and preview college.  Earn both high school and college credits at the same time.

 Increased responsibility for learning.  More demanding work.  Less structured environment.  Reduced opportunity for participation in high school activities, extracurricular programs, and athletics.  Opportunities for social development with peers.  Social Discomfort : -Student peers on a college campus are different from high school. - It may be more difficult to develop strong friendships while going to both high school and college.

 Increased financial obligations for education. Student who fail or withdraw from a course are liable to the college for ALL tuition costs, fees, books and materials provided.  Possible affect on GPA, class rank and eligibility or graduation.  A failing grade in a high school required course will need to be repeated. *This may jeopardize timely graduation.  Increased time for travel and study.  Transportation is the responsibility of the student and their parents.

 Class scheduling difficulties. -Students are responsible to make appropriate decisions and bear consequences. - Senior trips, spring break, schedules, high school field trips can interfere with college class times. - It may be impossible to schedule all desired classes. - Ohio High School Athletic Association eligibility requirements must be met for all athletes. *NHS PSEO/CCP Student Speakers*

 All students of Nordonia High School must complete the following: - Established requirements set by the Board of Education. - Approved course of study set by the Board of Education. - No graduation requirements may be waived for any student participating in the CCP program.

 Student must be scheduled for a combination of high school and college classes that equal full-time status (6 credits per semester but not to exceed 7 credits.)  Limit of 30 credits per year.  Limit of 120 credits maximum, even if beginning CCP in 7 th grade.  Students withdrawing past the NHS deadline cannot be scheduled into comparable high school classes until the following semester.

 Students are responsible to make appropriate choices within the course schedules at the two schools.  Scheduling of college courses should be done after appropriate NHS courses have been scheduled.  College courses taken to fulfill high school requirements must be complete before graduation.  Students will not be given credit for college courses at the remedial level of college.  Close communication with School Counselor at Nordonia and Academic Advisor at CCP school is imperative.

 A CCP Pathway is a grouping of college courses and course sequences that total at least 15 and 30 college credit hours.  A CCP Pathway may be organized by major or career path and include various core courses required for a degree or professional certification by the college.  Please refer to the NHS Program Booklet for the 2015/2016 school year on pages for examples of stackable pathways from Kent State University.

 Goal: Build stackable pathways supporting a 1 year certificate, 2 or 4 –Year degree.  Design Pathways to be flexible.  Students can complete a 15/30 credit hour pathway over multiple semesters.  Courses can be customized based upon student interest and placement and course availability.  Sample Pathway – for student who places into ENG and MATH 11010; non-science major:  15 Hour Pathway (KSU): Kent Course Name & Number Course Prerequisit es Location High School Requirement College Credits ENG College Writing I PlacementKent State UniversityEnglish3 MATH Algebra for Calculus PlacementKent State UniversityMathematics3 MUS Understanding of Music Kent State UniversityFine Art3 PHY Seven Ideas That Shook the Universe Kent State UniversityScience3 PSYC General Psychology Kent State UniversitySocial Science3 Total Credits: 15

 Convert college credit as follows: 1.)A CCP course transcripting 3 or more semester hours shall count as 1 full high school credit. *Example: College Writing I at Kent State University=3 semester hours AND converts to 1 full high school credit at NHS. 2.)A CCP course transcripting less than 3 semester hours shall count as a proportional fraction of a high school credit. *Example: -2 semester hours course at Kent State University= 0.66 credits at NHS. -1 semester hour course at Kent State University= 0.33 credits at NHS. 3.) Maximum number of hours allowed per school year in CCP program at college=30 college hours AND cannot exceed 120 college credit hours while in high school.

 ALL CCP course(s) are factored into students GPA and class rank.  CCP grades will be weighted: -All advanced standing programs must be weighted the same within subject area. Honors classes may not be weighted higher than any advanced standing program.

 If a student attends the same college after high school graduation, full credit is awarded.  Most universities within the state will grant full credit.  Colleges make decisions on an individual basis considering how the coursework fits into the student’s selected course of study at their college.  Students should check transfer policies of the college(s) of interest.

 No credit is awarded for a failed course.  If the failed course is a requirement for high school graduation, it must be retaken and completed before graduation.  Financial responsibility belongs to the student and his/her parents in the case of failure or withdrawal.

 Proper paperwork must be filed with the university to withdraw.  Upon Withdrawal, the student must meet with the Nordonia counselors to develop a new graduation plan and schedule.

 CCP students are allowed to participate in all Nordonia High School activities.  Students participating in high school activities are subject to the policy and procedures established for the activities.

 Ohio High School Athletic Association and NCAA rules govern eligibility. Students must communicate with their counselors and athletic directors to insure athletic eligibility.

 Students and parents should make an appointment with the admissions/advising staff at the university of choice.  Take a transcript and a list of graduation requirements.  College advising staff are the experts on courses offered at their institutions.

 Current NHS PSEO/CCP Statistics 2014/2015:  NHS PSEO Seniors: 27  NHS PSEO Juniors: 4  Total NHS PSEO/CCP: 31 students

 PSEO/CCP Institutions that NHS Students Attend:  Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C): 1  Kent State University (Main Campus): 2  Kent State University (Twinsburg Campus): 27  The University of Akron: 1
