My Works of Art By Katie Landen

Drawing and Painting I registered for my first ever art class the beginning of my sophomore year of high school. I enrolled because I had a desire to learn how to draw and paint. My extracurricular activities always consisted of athletics so I was excited to learn something new.

My First Piece of Art The piece I selected for the next slide is a piece that I designed in 8 th grade art class. We were told to create a piece of art that reflected movement and color. I began by penciling the design on canvas and then filled in with color. This piece was entered in an art contest and won.

Stairs This next slide was done my sophomore year of high school in my Drawing and Painting 1 class. I used prisma color. I was given a photo of this picture and told to draw it with colored pencils.

Self Portrait This was also done my sophomore year in my Drawing and Painting 1 class. We were told to draw and paint a self portrait using only 2 colors of paint.

My High School Bathroom Entrance This was done my sophomore year in Drawing and Painting 1. We were told to walk around school and find something interesting to draw. I used chalk.

Markers This piece was done my senior year in my Honors Advanced Art and Design class. I used prisma color. We were told to take a picture of anything that shows good reflection and then create it.

Pottery I enrolled in a pottery class my junior year of high school. This was my first experience with this type of art. It was a year long class and I really enjoyed this class.

Rattle This piece was my very first piece of pottery. It was a rattle assignment. The inside is hollow and filled with a couple clay balls to make a rattling sound. Glaze and clay were used.

Mask This piece was done my junior year in my Pottery class and I used clay, glaze, beads, black straw, and colored feathers. My teacher told me to make a mask in a tribal form. We were given freedom of expression and my thought process was to make a scary mask.

Vase This piece was done my junior year in my Pottery class. I used clay and black and white glaze. For this assignment we were told to make a vase in a tribal form. I made this by molding strips of clay together until it got to the shape and height that I wanted.

Coil Pot This piece was done my junior year in my Pottery class. I used clay and glaze. This was called a coil pot and I molded different shapes & sizes of clay together. I started at the bottom and built up.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share some of my art with you. It has been an incredible learning experience for me, over the last 4 years, to jump into the art world. I’ve never had any art training prior to high school and I found that I enjoy this as much as I enjoy athletics. I’m excited to continue my art training in college. Katie Landen
