Lanesha is a twelve year old girl
who lives in New Orleans’ Ninth Ward.
She doesn’t have a lot of friends. The kids at school don’t seem to understand her.
She doesn’t even have her mother.
But what she does have is Mama Ya-Ya, her loving, 82 year old, caretaker, who also happens to be able to see the future.
When Mama Ya-Ya’s visions show a destructive hurricane, Lanesha doesn’t know what to do.
Will she be able to survive on her own? How will she protect Mama Ya-Ya? Will she be able to lean on someone for help?
Read Ninth Ward by Jewell Parker Rhodes to find out.
