Chapter 4 Lesson 1 Forests

Woodland Forests A woodland forest gets enough rain and sunlight for trees to grow well. Temperature changes with the seasons. Animals can survive the seasons by adapting. Migration Hibernation Store food

Woodland Forest in the spring.

Plants begin to grow in the spring.

Woodland Forest in the summer.

Plants are full and green.

Woodland Forest in the fall.

Some leaves change color. Some leaves stay green.

Woodland Forest in the winter.

Some trees lose their leaves and others do not.

The chipmunk lives in the woodland forest The chipmunk lives in the woodland forest. They use their large cheeks to help them store food.

Deer have colors and spots to help them hide as the seasons change.

Owls hunt at night and use their large eyes to spot prey.

These animals also live in a woodland forest. Rabbit Fox These animals also live in a woodland forest.

Bears hibernate during the winter and change what they eat during seasons.

Rain Forests A tropical rain forest is a habitat where it rains almost every day. The temperature is hot and humid. Plants and animals can live in trees to reach more sunlight. Plants and animals can live on the ground where it is cooler.

Rain forests get a lot of rain all year round.

Trees and plants grow large in rain forests.

Jaguars hunt for prey on the forest floor.

Parrots and other animals stay safe in trees from the predators on the ground.

Plants have large leaves and have colorful flowers.
