Founded in 2008, Marc Brew Company is committed to developing innovative collaborative work that fuses a fierce physicality derivative from choreographer Marc Brew with tender expression to explore an emotional narrative in dance. Grounded in contemporary dance technique and classical ballet and drawing on the unique physicality of each performer, the work with disabled and non-disabled artists is honest, unsentimental and recognizably human.

“Marc Brew's juxtaposition of classical and contemporary movement styles is vital and compelling” - Herald Scotland

Nocturne was commissioned from Greenwich and Docklands International Festival 2009 and the Without Walls Street Arts Consortium.

Four dancers perform this dynamic work with two specially built double beds. The day to day of couples and domesticity, unfolds into an evening of restless dreams

Nocturne

Touring across the UK, Nocturne brings inclusive high quality performance to new audiences. The work has been created to be versatile for viewing in unusual spaces and as such is suitable for outdoor courtyard spaces, indoor atrium spaces and theatre spaces with raked seating. Duration: 20min 4 Dancers 2 Technicians 1 Support Worker

Remember When draws upon exposure, peeling away layers, using line and extension, intricate folding, placement and re-placement, opens a conversation of remembrance. Commissioned & Presented by East London Dance as part of Big Dance '08

Remember When is an intimate solo performance by choreographer/performer Marc Brew with a prelude screening of a short dance film projected behind the performer exploring the idea of perception - looking from past to present. This work has been designed to be performed in theatre spaces with blackout, raked seating and a full lighting rig with projector. Duration: 10min

With an original score by Philip Sheppard and acclaimed composer and percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie, a cast of five dancers will investigate the difference and influences of the two styles, questioning whether elements can be fused together or if they should remain as fragments in isolation. Fusional Fragments was being produced in partnership with DanceEast.

‘Fusional Fragments is an opportunity to showcase this most unique collaboration to the world. I am delighted to work with Marc Brew and to collaborate with the best of the best. Being part of this project will enable us to create something truly world class.’ - Dame Evelyn Glennie

Fusional Fragments has been designed to be performed inmedium scale theatre spaces with blackout, dance floor, raked seating and a full lighting rig with projector. Performers: 5 Number on the road: 8 Stage size: 10m x 12m Get in: 1 day Duration: 25min

Following the widespread success of Nocturne, his first outdoor work, Marc Brew has created a new work for outdoor locations in 2014, (i)land. Faced with life on a deserted island, three characters uncover a means of escape back to civilisation. As the narrative unfolds, the characters find pieces of a vehicle buried in the sand that will take them off the island. They work together to build the craft, only to find that it will carry just one of them. Part of the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme, supported by Without Walls

(i)land centres on a 6 ton pile of sand representing the land the characters find themselves in, and this provides a safe dance space in which Marc can explore movement in solo, duet and trio forms away from his wheelchair. Drawing inspiration from stories such as The Lord of the Flies, Lost and Castaway, and the legends of the Highland clearances and Australian outback, (i)land aims to engage audiences in questions about perceptions of the body in dance, the politics of disability, isolation and exclusion, ingenuity and invention. “Marc Brew knows exactly how to touch his audience in all the right places” - The Scotsman

Touring: May-September 2014 Performers: 3 Number on the road: 5 Get in: 2 day get in Performing Area: ideally 10 x 10 metres (UK only) for up to two performances on one day. Running time: 25 minutes Completely flat surface Site needs to be fully accessible by lorry to drop off 6 tons of sand Good quality, loud sound system for CD and laptop playback.
