Cross Contamination Experiment Safety and Sanitation
Cross-Contamination Experiment On a paper plate, place 2 slices of bread, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, and 1 tablespoon of jelly. Using a plastic knife, spread jelly on one slice of bread and peanut butter on the other. Put the sandwich together, then separate the two pieces of bread. Observe and make a mental note of how the two sides of the sandwich appear. (Is there jelly on the peanut butter? Is there peanut butter and jelly residue on the knife? Etc.)
Cross Contamination Experiment Assume that the bread is a cutting board, the peanut butter is raw chicken, and the jelly is ingredients for a salad, would the salad ingredients be contaminated by the raw chicken? Would you feel safe from foodborne illness eating this salad (sandwich)? Explain your answer. Then enjoy your sandwich!
