I will use positive reinforcement strategies to encourage good behavior, and will guide students to become responsible for their own behavior. If students need time to reflect on their behavior, or need time away from the group to problem solve, they may choose to Take a Break. This is a place to think, reflect and problem solve, so that they may successfully return to the class - it is not a punishment or a time out spot. Parent Teacher Conference Plan on attending a ½ hour conference one time during the year. Conferences are for guardians and teachers only. This year elementary schools have two conference dates. They are… December 3 rd and 4 th * There will be no school for students on these two days. I will be ing out a schedule at a later date and you can sign up through the . This is a new district wide policy.

Homework Every Monday a reading homework sheet will be sent home that is due on the Friday. They need to complete a short response to their reading. I expect that each child reads at least 20 minutes a night, even on the weekends if possible. In addition, Math homework will be sent home as daily lessons are completed. There may not be math homework every night, depending on the math unit. I will copy the math homework on lavender paper so that it stands out in your child’s mail. Math homework is due the next day, unless otherwise noted. I believe that homework in the 2 nd grade helps foster responsibility and organization for your student. You can help your student by setting up a consistent, organized place for homework to be done. Please encourage your child to do their work on their own but do not hesitate to help (and even let me know) if you notice your child struggling

Star Student One student each week will be chosen randomly. This is a special time for each student to share information about themselves with their classmates as well as practice their oral presentation skills. On the Friday before each student’s week, a sheet of poster paper will come home. During the weekend it is that student’s job to create a poster about themselves. The poster may have photographs, drawings, writing, or whatever they want. The only requirement is that it is put together neatly and the student can explain it. Please help your child remember to bring in their poster on Monday so that it may be displayed in the classroom during their special week. Students may bring one item for show-and-tell any day during the week. They should be prepared to tell us about the item and why it is important to them. Pets are not allowed at school anymore. 
