200 gms of butter for 87p 300 gms for £1.12 Before we can tackle this problem we must make sure the units are the same. Both the weights are in gms but one price is in pence and the other in pounds So change the pounds into pence £1.12 = 112p

200 gms of butter for 87p 300gms for 112p There are 2 ways to tackle this problem 1)Find how much butter we get for 1p 2)Find how much 1gm of butter costs

200 gms of honey butter for 87p 1p = gms So for 1p we get gms Find how much honey butter we get for 1p As we want the quantity obtained for 1p write the cost 1 st 87p = 200 gms Divide both sides by 87 to get 1p

300gms peanut butter for 112p Do the same for the peanut butter As we want the quantity obtained for 1p write the cost 1 st 112p = 300 gms Divide both sides by 112 to get 1p 1p = gms So for 1p we get gms

200 gms of butter for 87p So for 1p we get gms So for 1p we get gms 300gms for 112p This means that the peanut butter is better value as we get more gms for 1p

200 gms of butter for 87p 300gms for 112p Remember there were 2 ways to tackle the problem!!! 2) Find how much 1gm of butter costs

200 gms of honey butter for 87p 1gm = p So 1 gm costs 0.436p Find how much 1 gm of butter costs As we want the cost of 1gm write the weight 1 st 200 gms = 87p Divide both sides by 200 to get 1gm

300gms peanut butter for 112p Do the same for the peanut butter As we want the cost of 1gm write the weight 1 st 300 gms = 112p Divide both sides by 300 to get 1gm 1gm = 0.373p So 1 gm costs 0.373p

200 gms of butter for 87p So 1 gm costs 0.373p So 1 gm costs 0.436p 300gms for 112p This means that the peanut butter is better value as the cost of 1 gm is cheaper

Which is the best buy / best value for money? Cornflakes 99p for a pack of 600gms 120p for a pack of 750gms 150p for a pack of 1100gms Lets find how many gms we get for 1p

99p for 600gms 1p = 6.06 gms So for 1p we get 6.06 gms Find how much cornflakes we get for 1p As we want the quantity obtained for 1p write the cost 1 st 99p = 600 gms Divide both sides by 99 to get 1p

120p for 750gms 1p = 6.25 gms So for 1p we get 6.25 gms Find how much cornflakes we get for 1p As we want the quantity obtained for 1p write the cost 1 st 120p = 750 gms Divide both sides by 120 to get 1p

150p for 1100gms 1p = 7.33 gms So for 1p we get 7.33 gms Find how much cornflakes we get for 1p As we want the quantity obtained for 1p write the cost 1 st 150p = 1100 gms Divide both sides by 150 to get 1p
