The Sports Federation of Queensland Inc trading as QSport Enhancing the development of sport in Queensland via  ADVOCACY  EDUCATION  NETWORKING  RECOGNITION  PROMOTION

Members (115+)  State sporting organisations  Associates  Analogous to other State/Territory Sports Federations  Government recognised Industry Peak Body

Sport NFP Sector  80+ sports in Queensland  Over 6000 clubs  Over 1 million Queenslanders (3:1 participants : off field) largely volunteer run  Costs of participation, access to facilities and accessing sufficient “workers” key inhibitors  Workforce development difficult  Vital but under resourced component of strategy to produce healthier community

Challenges include:  Integrity issues covered by media with elite sport potentially seeping into community sport and impacting on Queenslanders’ health and wellbeing viz alcohol / drugs / betting / safety / litigation / behaviour.  Government/preventative health lobbyists keen to eradicate some connections (alcohol / food related) making contribution via sponsorship to sport without due regard to implications for community sport.  Inadequate levels of appropriately skilled people prepared to govern / manage sport over time / access to places & spaces to play sport / cost in time and money.

Strategies include:  Engage the underrepresented in sport (current priority women and girls).  Deal with inhibitors to participation(cost / time; access to places / spaces and accessing adequate workforce).  Reinvigorate sport and physical activity in government schools.  Key decisions need to take account of market trends, member capacity and forward oriented research, e.g. Queensland Plan / ASC Studies.

SSO Governance Survey Results 69 invitations extended and 30 responses received The responses were representative of the members of QSport with responses received from:  5 x Aquatic Members  7 x Field Sport Members  8 x Indoor Sport Members  10 x Outdoor Sport Members QSport identified topics to address and respondents indicated the following rating of priority
