Dinosaur Types!

Two main types of dinosaurs: Saurischia: ( sore-is-che-a ) Ornithischia: (or-nith-is-che-a) Both carnivores and herbivores. Only herbivores.

Saurischia: lizard-hipped Large lizard like pelvises and clawed feet. 1.Theropods: (there-o-pods) Both carnivores and herbivores. Divided into 2 sub-orders: 2. Sauropods: (saur-o-pods)

Theropods: (breast-footed) Carnivores (meat eaters) Sharp slicing teeth & clawed hands. Fast and agile. Strong legs with 3 toed, clawed feet. Bipedal walk. (walked on 2 feet)

Sauropods: (lizard footed forms) Herbivores. (plant eaters) Small heads and brains. Usually walked on 4 legs. Slow moving. Largest land animals ever!

Ornithischia: (bird hipped) Hips similar to modern birds & hoofed toes. Only herbivores. Four different types: 1. Ornithopoda 2. Thyreophora 3. Pachycephalosauria 4. Certopsia

Ornithopoda: (or-nith-o-poda) Bird-footed with 2 legs. No armor on body & spiked hands. Pachycephalosauria: ( packy-cep-halo-sore-e-a ) Walked on 2 legs. Huge bony skull.

Thyreophora: (thigh-re-o-for-a) Walked on 4 legs. Had an armor plated body. Certopsia: (sir-top-c-a) Walked on 4 legs. Had beaks & horns on face.

There were other types of dinosaurs: Pterosaurs: (ter-o-saurs) Flying bird-like reptiles. Ichthyosaurs: (I-cathy-o-saurs) Plesiosaurs: (ples-e-o-saurs) Sea reptiles.
