 CBU received NSF - ILI grant for Integrated Laboratory for Manufacturing Education.  Integrate undergraduate instructions in modern design method, agile manufacturing, and automated assembly.  Utilize the state-of-the-art mechanical design software - Pro/ENGINEER .  Focus on parametric design, 3D solid modeling and hands-on experience on traditional machining and CNC machining.

 Original hardware Configurations

 Upgraded Hardware Configurations

A parametric, feature-based solid modeling system Parametric : You can define or modify a feature’s dimension or other attribute at any time. Any changes will automatically propagate through the model. You can relate dimensions in numeric formula. Feature-based : Create parts and assemblies by defining features like extrusions, sweeps, cuts, holes, slots, etc. Solid Modeling : Computer model is able to contain all the “information” that a real solid object would have.

 Generate machining sequences  Cutter location simulation  Shaded image cutting simulation  Create or edit the post-processor for NC machining code  Finite Element Analysis Tool  Structure, Thermal, and Motion analysis  VRML Navigator

 ICUME at CBU creates a laboratory environment that reinforces and integrates undergraduate instructions in modern design methods and manufacturing.  Parametric design methodology reduces the time for modification and redesign.  Computer simulations of the manufacturing model and stress/thermal analysis of machined components provide better visualization and understanding of manufacturing processes.
