ENGR F RESHMAN D ESIGN Runs duration of Spring quarter (10 weeks) 3-5 students per group Groups are expected to Define their project (generally based on section theme) Determine the objectives, constraints, and tasks Develop a reasonable 10 week work plan Produce a concrete deliverable – not just a report 2

D EFINING D ESIGN P ROJECTS If you have your own project idea, you must Get the project approved prior to the start of Spring term Find an advisor willing to advise your group Submit an Externally Advised Project form Otherwise Each ENGR-103 lab section will have a project associated with it Registering for a given lab section will require that you participate in its associated project 3

F RESHMAN D ESIGN D ELIVERABLES All projects are expected to result in a tangible deliverable. This is dependent on the type of project, e.g. A completed program, app, or game for a software based project A functioning mechanism for a robotics based project A detailed study for an environmental engineering project You are expected to define a reasonable set of deliverables and meet them. “Report only” projects will not be approved 4

F RESHMAN D ESIGN R EGISTRATION Prior to the opening of Spring registration, we will publish a list of lab sections and their associated projects All group members must be registered to the same lab section Signed Externally Advised Project forms must be submitted by Monday of Week 9 Students in externally advised groups will register to a specific lab section 5
