Three Stage In-Building Design Concept

Challenges facing In-Building installation  How to cost effectively bring the fibre from the ODB into the building and into the apartment  Considerations for ensuring:  Professional cable management  Reduced equipment footprint  Timely installation  There is not always 100% customer uptake, so further consideration for managing:  Meet short term demand (PtP) OR  Provide for future customers (Splice)  Finding the optimum solution when planning for a variety of In-Building designs is the challenge

Stage 1 : Fibre to the Premises  Existing installation methods require microduct & cable  Traditional deployed in PtP format with single cable from the ODB  Time consuming to install the microduct and then pull/blow the fibre cable  Potential life cycle issues when deploying outdoor microduct  Flexible microduct life span is less than 2 years  Not scalable in medium to high end MDU environments  ODB cable management becoming un-managable

Stage 1 : Fibre to the Premises  Miniflex enables low risk and cost effective fibre connection  UV resistant in the most demanding situations (+85°C)  Miniflex can be deployed outdoors without the need for microduct  Lightweight and compact for durable installation using only wall clips  Aesthetically pleasing installation that reduces the visual footprint  Reduces the installation time which vastly increases the ROI

Stage 1 : Fibre to the Premises 1.The fiber breaks out from the curb to the premises and into an ODB  This is generally preformed by the Service Deployment team 2.Existing ODB has grown organically and will cause issues in the future  Harsh Saudi environment will lead to early end of life if remaining outdoors 3.Revised ODB installation method could bring all wiring indoors  Single connection from the Outside ODB to the Indoor IDB 1. FTTP ODB Location 2. Existing PtP Install 3. Moving the ODB Indoors

Stage 1: Fibre inside the Premises 1.Connecting the ODB into the IDB/IDF located in the building 2.Breaking out with a Pre-Terminated Miniflex Lead 3.Removing need to splice in the field with ‘plug & play’ solution 4.Brings the Point of Failure inside the building and away from damage  Now fully protected from harsh weather and extends the life 2. Miniflex Pre-Terminated Break Out Lead1. FTTP ODB Location

Stage 1 : Fibre inside the Premises 1.Optokon ODB/IDB Solution : Scalable to suit building requirements  Unit can be preconfigured for quicker installation with SC or LC plugs 2.Optokon IDF Solution : 19” Rack mounted units designed to suit  Plug and play options to quickly add new customers when signed to operator

Stage 2 : Fibre to the floor  Rather than using traditional PtP connection from the ODB to apartment  Introduce Floor Level Box 1.Take the IDB to Floor Level box 2.‘Pushable’ pre-connectorised Miniflex from the IDB to the Floor Splice box 3.LSZH Risser Rated solution  Providing Plug & Play solution  Future Proof and Scalable  Speeds future connections by 5x  De-skills installation requirement

Stage 2 : Fibre to the floor Miniflex Riser Solution : Pre-connectorised and Pluggable  Support for pre-terminated Miniflex to speed installation times  Miniflex can be pushed through the existing conduit  OR LSZH conduit can be installed using M2FX solutions  One cable per floor and thus reducing cable management concerns  Future proofing the building for simple and fast additional connections M2FX LSZH DVC Lined MicroductMiniflex Patch Cord termination options

Stage 2 : Fibre to the floor Optokon ODB/IDB Solution : Scalable to suit building requirements  Unit can be preconfigured for quicker installation with SC or LC plugs  Common unit in the network  And can be used in the basement, outdoors and/or floor level

Stage 3 : Fibre to the apartment  Pre-connectorised Miniflex reel for 5x faster installation and removing all engineer skills during the installation process 1.Hand-push through existing conduits 2.Or install directly onto building without the need for additional conduits 3.Quikpush used inside apartment  Providing Plug & Play solution  Fast and unobtrusive inside apartment  Speeds future connections by 5x  Deskills installation requirement

Stage 2 : Fibre to the apartment  Miniflex innovative ‘Pushable’ fibre installation cable  Miniflex cable offers strength, flexibility and compact size  Can be pushed by hand through existing pre-populated conduits/ducts  Lightweight and compact form factor allows for discreet installation  Ability to remove additional ducting inside the apartment 200 METRES PULL +300 METRES BLOW 100* METRES PUSH

Stage 3 : Fibre to the apartment  Pre-terminated Miniflex further reduces the installation cost  Patented ‘QuikPush’ solution delivers unrivalled installation speeds  Available in a range of lengths to support all installations ( m)  De-skills the installation team while increasing installation speeds  Supports a variety of installations with a ‘tool-box’ of solutions

 Step 1 : Miniflex cable cutter  The m2fx cable and Microduct cutter performs perfect neat cuts to the end of the cable and/or microduct.  Step 2 : Miniflex cable rotary cutter  The cable rotary cutters are ideal for removing the outset sheath without cutting or damaging the optical fibres and/or microduct.  Step 3 : Hot glue gun install  Hot-melt glue guns are available and allow fast fixing of Miniflex optical fibre cable to a range of building materials.  Step 4 : Cable wall clips  Cable clips are available in a range of different types, suitable for various types of materials including timber, masonry, plastic, metal and render. Stage 3 : Installation Guidelines

Stage 3 : Fibre to the apartment Optokon Customer Unit Solution : Compact and easy to install  Can hold 2 SC simplex adaptors or 2 LC duplex adaptors  Easily re-enter with minimum tools, saving time and cost  Can be pre-terminated onto Miniflex reels for Plug & Play connections  Dramatically de-skilling the installation process as no splicing required End to End solution deskilling the installation process by u to 5x

QNBN Proven Success Doha, Qatar : April 2014

QNBN Case Study  QNBN have a nationwide project to retro-fit fiber optic cable into existing infrastructure in approximately 100 apartment blocks  Ericsson has been selected as the integrator for the project  20mm electrical conduit in place  Cat-6 cable already in the existing conduits  Floor level runs on average <25m  Blown fiber killing the business case  Ericsson used Miniflex LSZH 4-core fiber cable  1 st Pushable fiber demonstration by Ericsson  Supported locally by two M2fx engineers

QNBN Scope  Miniflex LSZH 3mm cable complete with 2 pushable clip on brass dongle  Hand pushed into existing 20mm electrical conduits, which are populated with existing Cat-6 cable  The typical route was estimated at metres with 2 or 3 x 90° bends and at least 1 conduit join

QNBN Performance  Miniflex was pushed by hand into 15 apartments up to a distance of 25m  No air blown installation equipment was used  No physical installation equipment was used  No technical skill level was required  Less than 5 minutes training from the M2FX engineers was needed  Ericsson installation teams performed the demonstration  25 QNBN technicians present and were involved in the pilot  Senior management handled the cable and undertook pushable demo  Splicing performed in each apartment with 0.05dB loss  100% connectivity and no faults detected after connection test  QNBN 100% happy and positive towards M2FX/Ericsson Pushable fiber

QNBN Conclusion  Miniflex was pushed by hand at a speed of 15m per minute  On average, saved 45 minutes installation per apartment  Over 10 buildings, this will save >2,200 hours (93 days!)  QNBN have stated that future air blown fiber installations will not be acceptable and requesting only hand pushable fiber in the future  QNBN senior management see the huge advantages of pushable fiber  QNBN have issued Material Approval for M2FX cable

But what about the FTTH SDU Solution

Same same but Different  Essentially SDU installation is the same principal as In-Building  Taking FTTC inside the premises via a PtP connection  Ideally suited to QuikPush and pre-termination

SDU Overview  Push or Pull installation reduces install time and cost:  Hand pushed up to 100m in new ducts / up to 25m in occupied microducts  Miniflex can be pulled m using traditional methods  No need for expensive blowing and/or compressor equipment  Pre-terminated QuikPush technology:  Ruggedised Pre-termination (one or both ends) fibre cable  Remove the need for splicing and extensive time on site  Deskill the installation teams while increasing efficiency  Proven to reduce the installation time & increase the quality  Product approval by Mobily and already used in the network  Proven business case with existing Mobily installers

Mobily / Detasad Case Example Miniflex from the ODB into the customers villa boundary. Note that external microduct is no longer required due to the UV performance of Miniflex Miniflex runs into the premises connected directly to the wall without microduct protection. Miniflex enters the premises and still does not require microduct. Ultimately into the customer wall box with QuikPush connection.

M2FX End-2-End Toolbox Summary  Removal of external microduct  Miniflex clipped directly to the outside wall  Flexible, strong and lightweight cable management and reduced footprint  Hand push Miniflex through existing conduit/duct  Reduces cable damage and down time (pull/push rod not required)  Removal of expensive installation blowing equipment  QuikPush and Pre-terminated solutions drive down installation times  Reduces the number of field splices  Deskills the installation team(s) and reduces the installation time  Plug and Play network designed for tomorrows requirements  Splice provisioned network designed to support todays customers  100% removal of requirement of training installation teams  High quality manufacturing and 20+ years of fiber innovation  Miniflex produced only in the United Kingdom  All components produced or sourced from within the EU
