FRUSTRATION!!! Discouragement that occurs when an individual’s needs, goals or expectations are not met.

DOES THIS EVER HAPPEN?? You have just returned from your valley after attending the Membership Seminar and are reporting to the Executive Committee with some initiative you would like to implement! A member of the committee, listens politely, thanks you for the report, and then says we can’t adopt your suggestion because….

BARRIERS TO PROGRESS We’ve never done it that way before. The “cookie cutter” complex. Financial constraints. Supreme Council (the Deputy, by-laws) would not approve. We’ve tried this before and it didn’t work. Entrenched attitudes won’t share duties.

OVERCOMING BARRIERS 1.Recognize they exist. Anticipate there will be barriers and what they might be. 2.Have a plan and be prepared. 3.Stress the benefits and how the organization will be improved by the changes you offer. 4.Be persistent – don’t be discouraged easily.
