General Characteristics According to fatality data:  91% were males  45% occurred between 3:00p.m. and 9:00p.m.  61% occurred on local streets and roads  64% owned their bike for less than 2 years  42% were riding a sport bike

General Characteristics (cont)   71% of all motorcycle fatalities were the fault of the rider   20 – 29 year olds account for 29% of all motorcycle fatalities   49% were single vehicle crashes   45% of all multiple vehicles crashes were the fault of the rider   When the rider was at fault in a multiple vehicle crash, 53% of the time the rider was speeding   When the rider was at fault in a single vehicle crash, 41% of the time speed was a major factor and 26% of the time the rider failed to negotiate a curve
