Mick Jagger: Well there are a lot of topics we cover in this song. The song was written during the Vietnam War. I didn’t believe that our troops needed to be there. It was also against rape and murder. In the song it says that he wants “shelter” from the “storm” which meant being in Vietnam. Adam Melnik: Wow, that was really deep. I really appreciate the song a lot more. I love in the song how it’s really calm in the beginning, then in the middle it gets more intense. I feel very mellow and very angry all at the same time! Mick Jagger: I believe that when I wrote the lyrics, my favorite lines were: “Oh, a storm is threat’ning My very life today If I don’t get some shelter Oh yeah, I’m gonna fade away” Adam Melnik: Yeah! I love that part! I also like how it is slow in the beginning and later the tempo picks up.
