RS/GIS TECHNIQUES FOR RESCUE/RELIEF
Rapid analysis of information coming from the impact areas Quick field validations based on satellite imagery and ground based information Emergency Response-considerations Adapted from UNDTMP Disaster Assessment (1994)
Rapid Mapping of affected areas Fast dissemination of first hand information to National/Provincial/Local level government DRM agencies Emergency Response-considerations
Quick identification of impact areas Quick assessment of disaster magnitude Japan EarthuakeTsunami Strikes Sri Lanka: On December 26, 2004
RS data plays a vital role in disaster response/recovery due to below reasons; Emergency Response using RS data Larger Area Coverage Cost effective vs airborne RS Time Efficient Multi-sensor/spectral/ temporal Covers inaccessible Areas Faster extraction of GIS-ready data

Pakistan Floods; Daily Inundation Maps In the aftermath of flooding, rapid flood inundation maps are generated to asses the affected settlements The rapid assessment maps are generated on daily basis and provides complete picture of affected settlements, breaches along river course, damages to agriculture and areas vulnerable to flooding based on terrain profile and ground elevation level
Daily Data Acquisition of MODIS Aug Aug Aug-2010
Pakistan Floods; District Wise Damage Assessment Maps To further asses the situation and to efficiently plan rescue/relief efforts, district wise thematic maps of flood affected districts are required

Pakistan Floods; Monitoring of IDPs Satellite imagery plays vital role in planning and coordination of movement of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in aftermath of disaster RS data sets are used to identify suitable locations for establishing IDP camps. The camp sites are selected based on their terrain profile, ground elevation, available logistical support and flood water movement.
RAPID RESPONSE MAPPING TOOL
Rapid Response Mapping Tool (RRMT) RMT is a custom built, ArcGIS Engine based tool that enables creation of maps according to the user criteria. The purpose of this application is to create professional and standardized maps in shortest possible time, to simplify map development into few clicks of operations and to produce large volume of maps for diverse users.
Rapid Response Mapping Tool (Contd.) Rapid Response Mapping provides ready to use maps in less time with minimum efforts. It is very useful in emergent situations like natural disasters and catastrophes. The tool also provides different analysis results for a range of datasets e.g in case of a disaster, it can provide Estimation of the affected settlements and infrastructure Aggregated and separated calculation of affected area etc.
RRMT - Requirements In order to install RMT Application following components are need to be installed: Dot Net Frame work 2.0 or above ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 ArcEngine Runtime 9.2 After installing above components RMT can be installed. Simply double click the setup file and follow the instructions.
