Families And Schools Together (FAST) in Barking and Dagenham Gill Wilson Training and Employment Co-ordinator

FAST in Barking and Dagenham A parent’s perspective… Believe me, I have lived here 10 years and never been to the children’s centre. I thought it was rubbish. I also didn’t think I would carry on coming to the FAST programme because of Ramadan, however, I have loved every minute of it and I love the children’s centre. The course is great and me and my children love coming here. The staff are very helpful & nice. They always come running to help you.’

FAST in Barking and Dagenham A parent’s perspective … I learnt a lot from FAST. It helped me communicate with my children. It taught me that anything can be used for play, even a picture, you don’t need anything big. It taught me to be involved with my kids. I talk to my daughter more now and she listens to me. When you communicate, it makes it better and you grow together with respect. This programme helped me to do that.

FAST in Barking and Dagenham A child’s perspective of her family…. Our mum is nice. She takes us everywhere. She is good. We love our mum, she is lovely. She is a princess and is kind’

FAST in Barking and Dagenham A child’s perspective of his family… ‘ I love my mum best. She buys me things. She hugs me. She helps me’. ‘My mum is very kind. She is good at cooking. She helps me and my brother with our homework. I love her. She is the best mum’.

FAST in Barking and Dagenham – a case study Su Jie is a FAST participant and a single parent with extremely limited English, but with a determination to improve her language skills. Su Jie attended Ripple Primary school FAST programme as a parent with her child and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Su Jie did struggle with understanding FAST and worked closely with Gascoigne Children’s Centre who were already working with her on a number of issues.

FAST in Barking and Dagenham – a case study When Gascoigne Children’s Centre had the opportunity to deliver the FAST programme Su Jie immediately put herself forward as a parent volunteer facilitator.

FAST in Barking and Dagenham – a case study Su Jie was fully trained by FAST and undertook the role of facilitator at Gascoigne Children’s Centre during the 8 week period of the programme. July – August 2012.
