2011 Census Information Summary | May 2013 – Health of Carers & Unpaid Care Profile HEADLINES PRODUCED BY POLICY, IMPACT AND INTELLIGENCE | | KNOWSLEY COUNCIL  There are more w omen who provide unpaid care in the borough than men. This trend is the same across all age groups  Knowsley mirrors the national trend with 1 in 8 adults providing unpaid care  Unpaid care provision fell most heavily on women aged  The number of residents that fall in the bad or very bad health category who provide any kind of unpaid support increases with age.  There is an increase of 757 individuals with bad/ very bad health from the 0-24 age group (17) to the 65+ group (774)  The majority of unpaid carers in Knowsley rated their health as either very good or good.  Unpaid care is more common for employees who work full time than any other group within the Borough 17, , U NPAID CARERS  2011 census indicates 12% of Knowsley residents provided unpaid care. This is slightly higher than the 2001 rate of 11.5% taking into account change of population  Over the decade there has been an increase of 1.3 percentage points (234 individuals) providing unpaid care  Nationally 10% of care provision is unpaid. A GE E CONOMIC ACTIVITY PRODUCED BY POLICY, IMPACT AND INTELLIGENCE | | KNOWSLEY COUNCIL On Census day 2011  Those aged between accounted for the highest proportion of unpaid carers in the Borough-38% (6,801)  This differed from the national trend where those aged formed the largest group for unpaid care provision -2.1m (36%).  Knowsley young carers (0-24) made up around 10% of all carers. Nationally this figure was 7.5%  One in five carers who provided unpaid provision were aged 64+.
