Essential Question How will the removal of the Elwha Dams affect the salmon population in the Elwha River?

What I knew What I knew about my essential question is that the Elwha Dams have caused a lot of damage to the Elwha River. The population of salmon has dropped from 300,000, to about 4,000. What I Didn’t know: My Objective There was a lot of information that I did not know. This project helped me learn things about the Elwha River and the Elwha Dams that most people do not know.

The Hunt This topic for my Senior Culminating project was not my first choice for a topic. When my first question was not able to be my topic, I chose this one. I knew a few things about my essential question before I started writing my paper because of my Environmental Studies class that I took at the beginning of the school year.

The Hunt - continued There was a lot of searching through my sources for information because like I said before, I knew almost nothing about my topic. Though threw searching the internet, and talking to my personal references, I learned everything I needed to know about answering my essential question.

Application of Project For the application of my project, I plan on giving my powerpoint presentation to my advisory teacher, Mr. Durr, who has his own school website that his students use. I believe that my powerpoint presentation will help his future students and also his next advisory class while they are working on their Senior Culminating Project, to help them understand how the SCP presentation works. Mr.Durr and my parents have given me permission to put my powerpoint presentation on his website.

Conclusion (what I learned and maybe what I didn’t learn) The impact of the full project Though learning about my essential question, I have learned that the elwha river will soon be back to its original state in the next Ten to Fifteen years. This will help bring back the salmon population that has been rapidly depleting, and it will also bring back some more local jobs to the Olympic Peninsula.
