Rock Types By Tyler Schaad Science Education 9 th Grade Earth Science Begin!

Learning Objectives  Students will be able to identify igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. Next

Igneous Rocks  Formed by cooling and solidifying lava or magma  Can form above (extrusive) or below (intrusive) ground.  Examples include obsidian, granite, and scoria. Next

Sedimentary Rocks  Formed by the deposition of material on the surface or under water.  Examples include sandstone, conglomerate, and breccia. Next

Metamorphic Rocks  Form by the metamorphism of existing rocks.  This change happens because of heat, pressure, or chemicals.  Examples include shale, slate, and amphibolite. Next

Question 1  Which one of these is an igneous rock?

Correct!  Great Job, Obsidian is an igneous rock. Click to Continue

Incorrect  Sorry try again, this is a metamorphic rock. Back to Question

Incorrect  Sorry try again, this is a sedimentary rock. Back to Question

Question 2  Which one of these is formed by deposition?

Incorrect  Sorry this rock is formed by metamorphism. Back to Question

Incorrect  Sorry this rock was formed by volcanic activity. Back to Question

Correct!  Great Job, sandstone is a sedimentary rock. Continue

Congratulations!!  We are finished with the activity Start OverResources
