A recent survey by Sprint proves that 50% of all junior high students own cell phones. This high percentage proves that cell phones are a way of life in the United States. Schools provide computers, digital cameras, and calculators; a cell phone is just another piece of technology that can help students to learn. Statement of Fact

My dad wouldn’t leave home without his Swiss Army knife. He calls it the tool that can solve any problem. I feel the same way about my cell phone, the 21 st century tool that can solve all problems. My cell phone is a camera, an Internet connection, a GPS, a calculator, and an MP3 player. Oh, I almost forgot, it is also a phone. Just like Dad’s Swiss Army knife, my cell phone can solve any problem. I firmly believe that cell phones should be allowed on during class time. Metaphor

The cell phone is like a security blanket. When I have my cell phone turned on, my parents can reach me no matter where I am. If our school makes a rule that cell phones should be turned off during class, my parents will suffer. The cell phone also gives me a level of security since I use it as a calculator, a calendar, and a camera. All of those tools have a place in the classroom. I think cell phones should be left on in school and classrooms. Simile

Bzzz, bzzz, bzzz. That is the quiet little buzz of my cell phone letting me know I have a message. That quiet little buzz will not disrupt class. It will not interrupt a teacher in the middle of a lecture. It will not distract anyone. Cell phones should be allowed to be turned on during school. Onomatopoeia

Security, safety, solutions – a cell phone can provide students with all of these if it is used wisely. Cell phones should be allowed on during school hours. To ban cell phones would be a step-backward. Alliteration

Cell phones can be the most powerful learning tool in the classroom. The calculator helps me to solve math problems. The camera allows me to take pictures of diagrams and models. The Internet connection lets me research problems. Turning off cell phones during school would be foolish. Bold Statement

If schools want to prepare students for life in the real world, then they need to bring the real world into the school. Without a doubt, cell phones and all of their applications are part of the real world. Turning off cell phones during school ignores the power of 21 st century technology. Bold Statement

Writing a definition of a cell phone is not an easy task. A few years ago it could be defined as a little telephone that people carried with them to make calls in lots of places. Today the cell phone would be defined as many things: a calculator, an MP3, an Internet connection, a GPS. The cell phone is a way of life. I firmly believe that students should let cell phones on during school. Definition

Many people define cell phones as an annoying little beast that disrupts meals and good movies. In reality, the cell phone owner who doesn’t silence the phone is the annoying little beast. The cell phone is a tool for the 21 st century. I think cell phones should be allowed on during school because they can be put to good use by students. Personal Definition

When pencils were invented did schools waste time discussing if they should be allowed in the classroom? No – people saw it as a great way to help kids learn. Then why are people so concerned about cell phones in the classroom? Set a few simple rules about how to use cell phones, and they can also be a great way to help kids learn. Question

“Mr. Watson – come here – I want to see you.” Telephones have changed a lot since the day that Alexander Graham Bell spoke those words into his invention. Today cell phones can be used as calculators, cameras, or calendars. I don’t see any good reasons to demand that cell phones be turned off during school, but I can see several reasons why they should be left on. Don’t ban cell phones from school. Quote

“Remember, Jason, this phone is not a toy.” My parents remind me regularly that if I want to keep my cell phone, I have to be responsible with it. So I don’t see any need for the school to make rules about turning phones off in class. If my parents find out that I am using it to cheat on a test or play pranks, the phone will be gone. Give us kids a chance to prove that we are responsible enough to use our phones for learning. Personal Quote

Changing the Closings

We need to set a few rules about cell phone use in the classroom. The cell phone is not the problem, but irresponsible kids are. Make rules for them, and let the rest of us keep our cell phones. It is the 21 st century. Final Statement

When you think about all the ways a cell phone helps students, the decision to let it on during school is simple. Researching topics, taking photos, calculating problems – the cell phone can help a student with all of these during class. Don’t make students go to an outdated school. Join the 21 st century and let those phones on. Summary

A poster in our classroom says, “Behold the turtle. He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out.” I know that a lot of schools are banning cell phones, but I think our school needs to stick out its neck and allow phones. If we do that, our students can make real progress. Quotation

I feel very strongly that cell phones should be allowed in the classroom. The cell phone can be used to help solve problems in math, science, or any other class. They can save lives in an emergency. Lets keep those phones on for better education and safety of the students. Author’s Feelings

I predict that if cell phones are allowed to stay on in school, we won’t have any major problems. At first, the phones will be a novelty bump just like someone with a new pair of shoes or a cool shirt. But soon everyone will put their phones away and get down to work. Prediction

Don’t you agree that cell phones are an accepted part of today’s world? I know you will agree that we want kids to get the best education they can. Cell phones in the classroom can be a big part of getting that education. Question
