Ephesians 5:1-22

Ephesians 5:1-2 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Ephesians 5:3 But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.

Ephesians 5:4 Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.

Is this “RELIGIOUS” or Biblical?

Ephesians 5:5 For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

Ephesians 5:6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

From Ephesians 5:7-8 Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.

From Ephesians 5:8-10 Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.

Ephesians 5:11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.

Ephesians 5:12 For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret.

From Ephesians 5:13-14 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light.

From Ephesians 5:14 Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Ephesians 5:15-16 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.

Ephesians 5:17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

What is the will of the Lord, Paul? Tell us!

From Ephesians 5:18 do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit

Is this “RELIGIOUS” or Biblical?

Ephesians 5:19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart

Ephesians 5:20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ

Ephesians 5:21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to [King Jesus].

19 “There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. 20 And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, 21 who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried, Luke 16:19-22

Luke 16: and in Hell, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. 24 And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’ 27 And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house—28 for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’

1. Jesus preached that after death, there one place for peace and another place for fiery torment. 2. In the place of peace, Abraham is there. 3. In the place of torment, you are fully conscious, and have physical senses (including thirst). You can also think, speak, & rationalize.

4. When someone is burning in hell, it is their deepest desire that someone with the knowledge of hell would go back and warn them. Your friends and family members who have died without putting their faith in Jesus Christ are calling out, screaming out, begging that I warn you today about the horrors they now face. If I don't tell you about hell, I dishonor your unsaved deceased. They are begging me to tell you about hell. And I will oblige them.

Have you ever been burned? Think of a time that you've been burned by hot water or a hot stove. How would you feel if someone intentionally caused you to be burned? What would you do to someone if they chose to burn you? If they threw hot water on you?

From Revelation 14:10-11 [those in hell] will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night

If you do not repent of your sins And give your life to Jesus, he will Cause you to be burned forever. The Saints will eventually forget about pain, And sin, and evil. Every tear will be wiped away. But the wicked will burn “in the presence of the lamb” “forever and ever.” Their tears Will never be wiped away. Their pain will never end. Jesus will choose to burn them.

“But,” you may say, “Isn't hell temporary?” “Does 'forever and ever' really mean 'forever'?” That's a good question.

“And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever” (εἰς αἰῶνας αἰώνων) (eis aiōn aiōn) Εἰς (pronounced “ice”) Means “into, towards, for, among” Αἰών (pronounced “I own”) Has 3 possible meanings: 1) for ever, an unbroken age, perpetuity of time, eternity 2) the worlds, universe 3) period of time, age

Theological liberals argue that Hell is not “forever and ever,” but “for a period and for a period.” They claim that you burn for a time and then are annihilated. There's a big problem with this view, however:

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh." - Jesus, (John 6:51) he will live forever = he will live “eis aiōn”

“This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread [fn] the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever." - Jesus, (John 6:58) [same author as Revelation 14] will live forever = will live eis aiōn

Go ahead. Throw away the permanency of hell. But with it, basic rules of Biblical interpretation dictate that you MUST ALSO judge the other uses of those same words by the same author by the same exegetical standard. If you throw out the eternal nature of hell in Revelation 14, you MUST ALSO throw out the eternal nature of life in John 6. Eternal life with God lasts only as long as hell does.

Let's pray.
