TRAVELING LIGHT Work is God’s Work Psalm 8 Let’s Pray

O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth, Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens! From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength Because of Your adversaries, To make the enemy and the revengeful cease. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained; what is man that You take thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God, and You crown him with glory and majesty! You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, whatever passes through the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8) O Lord, our Lord… How majestic is Your name in all the earth!

He is Lord… Easy to see how the ungodly have been deceived Even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God Futile in speculations Foolish hearts were darkened Professing to be wise, they became fools Exchanged the glory of God for an image of corruptible man For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. (Rom.1:20-23) His Lordship is evident: Will He be regarded as Lord?

O Lord, our Lord? For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. (Rom.1:20-23) Question is fundamental for us too Clearly, He is Lord of creation… But is He Lord of work? Even though you know God, do you honor Him as God at work? Do your speculations at work exclude God’s work and power? At work is your heart darkened? Are you applying the world’s wisdom at work and becoming foolish? Exchanging the glory of God for an image of corruptible man

Be Confident in His Power at Work If it’s really God’s work, it will stay balanced Have faith that He is “building” and “guarding” (Ps. 127) Have the confidence in God to respectfully push back Obtain the required resources Delegation and teamwork Your confidence is not in your boss, your company, or your skills… but in your Lord… your Provider Some boast in chariots and some in horses, But we will boast in the name of the LORD, our God. (Ps.20:7) Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help And rely on horses, And trust in chariots because they are many And in horsemen because they are very strong, But they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the LORD! (Is.31:1) Blessing your work: NBD for God

Hope in the Lord From this time forth and forever… Humility is demonstrated as you stay within your gifts… and the abilities of your team God gave your natural gifts just as much as He gave your spiritual gifts As you stay within your gifts, and hope in the Lord, you have peace (and sanity) Maintaining margin for God’s priorities… be diligent here There are times when we must sprint O LORD, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty; Nor do I involve myself in great matters, Or in things too difficult for me. Surely I have composed and quieted my soul; Like a weaned child rests against his mother, My soul is like a weaned child within me. O Israel, hope in the LORD From this time forth and forever. (Ps.131)

60% of the time you’re awake, you’re at work If His Lordship can be narrowed to exclude work, it’s no lordship at all Good luck charm Something I do to support the family Don’t be double-minded… O Lord, our Lord? He is Lord of Your Work… Do You Believe It? Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (Ja.4:8)

(Ps. 8: 3-9)

God has given us direction and He has also equipped us for the task that brings Him glory Skyline

God has given us direction and He has also equipped us for the task that brings Him glory Skyline A little lower than God Crowned by God with glory and majesty Made in God’s image… according to His likeness Made to rule over all the works of God’s hands Equipped and directed us to “subdue the earth” This part is not principally done through the church, but through work How God Has Honored and Equipped Us!

(Ps. 8: 3-9)

Jesus Worked… Like You and Me "Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?" And they took offense at Him. (Mk.6:3) When He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph… (genealogy) (Lk.3:23) With perspective for eternity… His mission

Separation of church and state… Division of sacred from secular Natural abilities and spiritual gifts from God Abiding in His presence All for His glory One Lord One Life One Thing How majestic is Your name in all the earth! O Lord, our Lord…
