Goals Students will know how to use the Course Planning Guide. Students will know the difference between high school and college requirements. Students will know where to find help for making next year’s course requests. Students will know the timeline and method for making course requests. Write your name on your course planning guide and the insert. Annotate your course planning guide throughout this presentation.
Graduation Requirements & College Admission Recommendations Refer to the gold Course Planning Guide page 1 for Geneseo High School Graduation Requirements & page 4 for college admission recommendations. Refer to pg 2 (course offerings). Check the “Graduation Requirements” tab in your Skyward Access Account
Course Planning Guide Deletion - English 10 S p e e c h. P l e a s e a d d 2 s e m e s t e r s o f C o m p 2 ( & o r L i t I I E n r i c h e d ( & ) Making up credit if you failed a required class If you failed a first semester class and the make up class is not on the list of courses, select “Make-Up S ”. You may select “Make-Up” only once each semester. We will replace the class with the actual class failed before your schedule is built. The only courses you can repeat for credit are band, choir, and physical education.
Selecting Electives Classes with term “S12” meet either semester Classes with term “S1” meet first semester Classes with term “S2” meet second semester Be sure to select both semesters of a year long course (i.e. English, Math, Science, foreign language, band, choir). Your course planning guide indicates whether a course meets for a semester or year long. Do not select a course with 9 as the second number without teacher permission.
Marching Band Waiver Marching Band/PE Waiver information and the required form are available on the counseling webpage. The form must be stapled to your printout of course requests to be eligible. Sophomores must enroll in marching band to request a PE waiver.

If you are eligible for early bird and you turn in all the required documents and signatures on February 6, the early bird class will be added to your requests in Skyward by the Guidance Department.
Study Hall You may take one or two semesters of study hall. –First semester study hall (90121). –Second semester study hall (90122). You may seek additional academic assistance from your teachers during study hall. There is no guarantee your study hall will be scheduled during 7 th period.
Scheduling Forms on the Counseling Webpage –Early bird policy and list of early bird times and days –PE Waiver information is for Marching Band only. The form must be returned with your printout of course requests from Skyward.
Directions for requesting courses in Skyward Students will request courses for next year using their Skyward Access Account beginning February 3. Select at least 12 credits under “courses requested”. If you want a study hall, please select it with “courses requested”. Students enrolling in classes pds. EB- 7 need a minimum of 12 credits and a maximum of 16. To begin the process, you will log on to the Family Access page using either the parent or student access. Follow the steps on the next frame.

Choose “Schedule” (left side tool bar) 2. Click “Course request ” (Top right) 3. Highlight each request (Follow the course selection worksheet of available courses) 4. Click on “Add Course” 5. Check list of choices you have made. 6. If correct, select the print icon on the top right side of the page and print. This page must be signed by a parent and student. 7. Logout Return the course request page to the HS Guidance office by February 11 th. Do not select a course with 9 as the second number without teacher permission.

Help with online scheduling A counselor will be available in the high school library on February 7 th during ASAP, before and after school, during lunch and during 6 th or 7 th period study halls. Bring your Skyward ID and password. You must get a permit from your study hall teacher before coming to the library. If you do not have a study hall, please come in during ASAP, lunch or before or after school. You may not miss LC.
February 11 th due date Your skyward print out must have a parent and student signature. The print out of your requests must be turned in to the guidance office by February 11th. Please do not request your “alternates” online. Write at least 2 alternates on the skyward print out page. Attach appropriate forms (PE waiver)
