CA High School Exit Exam Taken in March of Sophomore Year Tests Math and Language Arts Once a section is passed, it does not need to be repeated If they fail a section, the student has five more opportunities to pass before June of senior year We offer a CHSEE English support class for juniors who do not pass this section

Life after graduation… Community College 4-year College/University Trade/Specialty School Military Full-time Work Apprenticeship …or any combination of the above! If in doubt, prepare for a 4-year college

CSU/UC Minimum Requirements “a-g” English-4 years History/Social Science-2 years Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II) -3 years *Colleges expect all students to take math in the senior year. Foreign Language-2 years *3 years of the same foreign language is preferred.

“a-g” College Reqs. Continued Laboratory Science -2 years *One year of Biology and one year of Chemistry is expected. Visual/Performing Art-1 year College Prep Elective-1 year SAT or ACT in spring of Junior and Senior year (through November)

“D” grades do not count for college! If you plan to go directly to a 4-year college from DHS, all grades in “a-g” classes must be at least a “C” (avoid C- grades). If students pass all classes at DHS, they will graduate with 240 credits so may repeat one class for no credit See your counselor about options for making up D/F grades; C grades may not be improved

UC System: Serves top 1/8 of high school graduate MINIMUM GPA of 3.0 to apply Comprehensive Review includes: Grades in “a–g” courses in grades 10 – 11 Number of “a-g” and AP/Honors classes Quality of the senior year schedule Extra-curricular activities, special talents SAT or ACT scores Personal statement Make sure that you are involved in “life”

UC System: Class of 2012 Average GPA was 3.80 with 24 “a-g” courses Average cost $31,000/yr living on campus Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) at seven UC campuses -earn an average of a GPA in UC transferable courses from a CA CC (depends on campus and major)

UC Admission Requirements Students must complete 11 of the 15 “a-g” requirements by the end of 11 th grade and achieve at least a 3.0 GPA in those courses. Plus, the top 9% of the graduating class who meet the above eligibility will be guaranteed admission to at least one UC campus. You will be notified in Spring of the Junior year.

Out of State/Western Undergrad. Exch. Students who are residents of WICHE states may enroll at participating two- and four-year college programs outside of their home state at a reduced tuition rate. WICHE states include: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming. Research your options throughout high school, don’t wait until senior year Set realistic goals using data Take the PLAN and PSAT for test practice You cannot change your GPA, but you can change your test scores, take test-prep classes or “bootcamps” as needed Use your resources-get to know your counselor-create a 4-year plan
