Presentation transcript:

A well-rounded, college-ready student takes the three core courses [Bio, Chem, Physics] and at least one AP science course. Make a plan: start at your destination work back to your location! You can take more than one course per year: sophomores can double up Chemistry or Physical Science with Anatomy, Field Biology, &/or Zoology; JR’s & SR’s can take two AP courses; Astronomy, Meteorology, Field Bio, & Zoology double up nicely with all core science courses.

Health: life science focus with MCAT prep.

Engineering: focus on the physical sciences.

For Regular or Honors Biology students: Chemistry, Physical Science, or Earth Space? Dependent on math enrollment for next year: Follow the recommendation of your math teacher. Math drives Science; NOT Science drives Math! For a Freshman in H/Reg Bio enrolling for Sophomore year: If recommended for Honors Algebra II (or higher), Chemistry is recommended. If you loved Biology, consider doubling up with Anatomy & Physiology. If successful in Algebra 1 (A or B) OR recommended by your math teacher for regular Algebra II, Physical Science is recommended. The extra year of math will prepare you for Chemistry as a Junior. Algebraically manipulate: F=ma, D=m/V, PV=nRT If neither of the above apply, Earth Space is recommended. The extra year of math will prepare you for Physical Science as a Junior.

For Earth Space students: Physical Science, Chemistry, Zoo., Field, Met., Ast.? Dependent on math enrollment: Follow the recommendation of your math teacher. Math drives Science; NOT Science drives Math! The Well-Prepared Graduate: If recommended for Algebra II or >, Chemistry is recommended. If not recommended for Algebra II, Physical Science is recommended. Other options: Zoology &/or Field Biology if you like Biology. Meteorology &/or Astronomy if you like Physical Science. Doubling Up: If you like Biology, consider taking Physics AND Anatomy & Physiology or AP Biology. If you like Chemistry, consider taking Physics AND AP Chemistry.

For Physical Science students: Chemistry, Anatomy, Zoology, Field Biology, Meteorology, &/or Astronomy? Dependent on math enrollment: Follow the recommendation of your math teacher. Math drives Science; NOT Science drives Math! The Well-Prepared Graduate: If recommended for Algebra II or >, Chemistry is recommended. Consider doubling up: Anatomy & Physiology (year), Zoology (sem), Field Biology (sem), Meteorology (sem), Astronomy (sem). If not recommended for Algebra II or >, consider: If you like life science: Anatomy & Physiology (year), Zoology (sem), Field Biology (sem), If you like physical science: Meteorology (sem), Astronomy (sem).

For Chemistry students: Physics, AP Physics I, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, &/or Anatomy & Physiology? Doubling up? Dependent on math enrollment: Follow the recommendation of your math teacher. Math drives Science; NOT Science drives Math! The Well-Prepared Graduate: One year each of Biology, Chemistry, AND Physics ≥ 1 AP science course: AP Bio, AP Chem, AP Physics I or II. Physics → +3 points on ACT / Science Reasoning! If recommended for: Hon Precalculus or Acc Precalc, then AP Physics I is recommended. Regular Precalculus, then Physics is recommended. Doubling Up: If you like Biology, consider taking Physics AND: Anatomy & Physiology, AP Biology, Zoology, &/or Field Biology. If you like Chemistry, consider taking Physics AND AP Chemistry.

Effect of Physics on ACT Science subtest score:

For Physics students: One or more of AP Physics I or II, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, Anatomy, Field Biology, Zoology, Astronomy, &/or Meteorology. Dependent on math enrollment: Follow the recommendation of your math teacher. Math drives Science! NOT Science drives Math. The Well-Prepared Graduate: ≥ 1 AP science course: AP Bio, AP Chem, AP Physics I or II. What are your interests? What will prepare you? If you like the life sciences, consider Anatomy & Physiology, AP Biology, Zoology, &/or Field Biology. If you like the physical sciences, consider AP Chemistry, AP Physics I or II, Meteorology, &/or Astronomy. Doubling Up: You can take more than one block of science per year.

For AP Chemistry, AP Biology, &/or AP Physics 1 students: One or more of AP Physics I or II, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, Anatomy, Field Biology, Zoology, Astronomy, &/or Meteorology. The Well-Prepared Graduate: One year each of Biology, Chemistry, AND Physics? Another AP science course: AP Bio, AP Chem, AP Physics I or II.
