JIGIṢᾹ Quest for Knowledge “Philosophy is to be studied, not for the sake of any definite answers to its questions, since no definite answers can, as a rule, be known to be true, but rather for the sake of the questions themselves; because these questions enlarge our conception of what is possible, enrich our intellectual imagination, and diminish the dogmatic assurance which closes the mind against speculation………..” Bertrand Russell, The Problems of Philosophy JIGIṢᾹ Quest for Knowledge JIGIṢᾹ is the brainchild of the departmental faculty members who fascinated to focus the students on the attitude of practising Philosophy and exercising the discipline through various activities.

The students of the Department enacted a play composed by one of the third-year students of the Department on Prabhu Jagatbandhu’s vision of life and education. It was a tribute to the founder of the institution on occasion of the golden jubilee celebration of the college. The department took a lead role to impart Prabhu Jagatbandhu’s views to all the students of the college on this special occasion. Educational Excursion to “Ramkrishna Math’’ in Antpur and the Temple of Rajballavi Mata in Rajbalhat was organised on 15.11.2014.
DEPARTMENTAL ROADMAP The department would like to promote yoga and meditation as its best practices. Yoga is absolutely essential for one’s physical well-being and meditation is equally important for one’s mental health. So, we would require a separate room to promote these practices. Acquiring a separate well-equipped room for counselling sessions whose interiors are appropriate for counseling - a room equipped with a computer, internet connection, a projector for power point presentations, smart board, display boards, notice board, almirahs, tables and chairs. The Department would like to emphasize on the need for increase in permanent substantive sanctioned posts as the departmental workload is overbearing on the Faculty members.
DEPARTMENTAL ROADMAP Cont. The Department plans to make the students do small projects in fixed groups every month on topics relevant to the syllabus. They are to be made more familiar with applicability, comparative study, innovative ideas, and foremost the presentation of their exclusive thought either through students' seminar or exhibitions. The Department plans to organize workshops and interactive sessions for teachers and students on health programmes (physical and mental health) of yoga and value education. The Department plans to further extend its counseling services beyond the students and staff of the Department to students of other departments as well. Gradually, the Department would like to cater to the immediate society in and around the college regarding problems related to coping with stress, excessive workload, mental depression, imbalanced personality development trying its best to contribute towards making society a better place with healthy citizens.
