CREATING NEW USER ACCOUNTS FOR DESTINY AND A HOW TO GUIDE TO ACCESS EBOOKS Prepared by Mrs. Hosmer

LOGGING IN Key library.southingtonschools.org SELECT YOUR SCHOOL

CREATING ACCOUNT SCREEN AND LOGIN SCREEN STEP 1 Choose Create Account

Last Name/Barcode Information Elementary Students: Last name and first name as password. Mrs. Miller will import them into Destiny. Middle School and High School Students: Students will create their accounts. Use slides 5-7 for directions.

Last Name/Barcode Information High School students and staff Enter Last Name in top box Use your Student ID in the barcode box Click next

BIRTHDATE PROMPT STEP 2 Students and Staff-fill in birthdate boxes Click Next (right of green arrow)

STUDENT PROFILE SCREEN STEP 3 HAVE STUDENTS FILL OUT ALL INFORMATION AND CLICK SAVE! address is important for if they do not remember their username and password, a new one may be sent to the student.

Follett Opening Screen 1. Students may select the catalog tab to access Follett Shelf or by clicking on the home tab at top of screen. 2. Students can access the Follett Shelf for the ebooks by clicking on the Follett Shelf icon above.

Logging in to Follett Shelf Go to and select Southington High Schoolwww.southingtonschools.org Scroll down to Library Media Center Click on library catalog on main page Select SHS from all the schools listed Student will be on the page titled “SHS Online Resources” Select Ebooks on right side Screen below will appear Students and staff will use the username and password they created in the previous slides

OPENING SCREEN SHOT One can view books by the cover, list or search by category. Also, one can checkout books (see bottom) and logout here by clicking on their name in upper right corner.

EBOOKS NAVIGATION TIPS Students may view and check out books from the main screen-see slide 12 Students may also hover over a book to get information about the book Students may check out a book after reading several pages/chapters. See slide 12. Students may return to the main menu by clicking on their backpack in upper right corner

Information about an ebook Click on a book and click the I( overview) One can open a book from this screen.

SELECTING A BOOK Hover over the book you wish to open/check out/etc. When you hover, the title disappears and the words Open book appear Click open book Clicking on open book automatically opens the reader

READER Contents lists chapters of the book Search key words, phrases, etc in book Highlighter-3 colors Add a note-See screen shot slide 18 Book notes-See Screen shot slide 19

EREADER BOTTOM OF SCREEN Choose to have the book read to you by clicking on the above icon. Select the options below to open your book. You can select fit to width, fit in window, to two pages, zoom in/out Use the navigation tools above to Move forward one page, back Or to print

READER CONTROLS A Screen shot is found on Slide 17 Along the bottom of the page there are choices – Read (reader may have two pages open option or single page) – Fit to width – Fit in window – Zoom in/out (+/-) – Left arrow-go back a page – Right arrow-go forward a page – Student always knows what page they are on for example 33/245 – Print option in far right

TO CHECK OUT A BOOK Hover over the title that you wish to check out Scroll down to bottom of page (see below) Click and drag title to the blue checkout box on right side READER OPENS CLICK ON THE PLUS SIGN (changes to a minus sign TO GET THIS BLUE CHECKOUT BOX

FOR MORE INFORMATION Within the main catalog of books, scroll through to find Follet’s Full Featured Online Reader Guide. Do not forget to logout by clicking on your name in the upper right hand corner. Select the logout option.
