About 365,000 gallons have been fed to ARP / MCU to date (about 4000 gallons per batch). Processing flow rate is 4 gpm. Complex system - note that ARP / MCU is in H Tank Farm VITRIFICATION Strip Effluent Hold Tank DSS Decanter SS Mixing Tank SS Receipt Tank TK 50 DSS Hold Tank Vault Saltstone

Saltstone Processing Processed 3.7M gallons of salt solution total Processed 1.4M gallons since start of current campaign in March 2007 Processing Rate – 120K gallons / wk Vault 2 Under Construction Background – just in case it comes up – March 5, 2007 - DDA processing initiated (Deliquification, dissolution, and adjustment) Late March 2007 – legal appeal filed, Saltstone processing suspended. October 2007 – Legal appeal resolved. Processing resumes. Vault 1 - 2.03M gallons grout / 192 Ci Vault 4 - 3.66M gallons grout / 134,000 Ci total inventory Original design – 0.001 Ci/gal Current design – 0.1 to 0.2 Ci/gal Original Design capacity - 192K gallons / week Recent failure of grout pump hose - expect to return to Tank 50 processing by approximately mid-April. Vault 2 construction completion in July 2010 Vault 2 – two concrete tanks with a total useful volume of 667,000 ft3. Equivalent to about 3 cells of the old vault design. About 35 weeks operating volume.

Salt Waste Processing Facility 98M Gallons Salt Solution to be processed Full Construction Authorization (CD-3) Transition to Radioactive Operation - May 2013 CD-3 received late FY08 Schedule contingency – 124 weeks (31 months) to January 2016

Salt Disposition Integration Project Prepare initial macrobatch feed for SWPF Ready to feed SWPF by a rate of: 3.75M gallons / yr – first year 6M gallons / yr – normal rate Ready to process 220K gal/wk from SWPF to Saltstone Ready to process Strip Effluent and MST Sludge Solids from SWPF to DWPF

HLW Processing Overview 2696 Canisters Produced (thru March 31) 2.82 M Gallons transferred from HTF 97 Canisters – FY 09 (thru March 31) Processing Sludge Batch 5 thru May 2010 Melter 2 – Operational Since March 2003 Melter 3 – Ready as Spare Melter 4 - Vessel and Frame contract awarded K3 Refractory – Manufacturing In progress Components – Under construction Assembly completion date – November 2013 Over 10.5 Million Pounds of HLW Glass 18.4 Million Ci 1339 - canisters poured by Melter 1 1357 - canisters poured by Melter 2 Planning basis – High Fe sludge – 250 canisters per year / High Al sludge – 186 canisters per year. Sludge Batch 5 – low temperature Aluminum dissolution conducted for this batch Sludge Batch 6 processing in progress – will also undergo LTAD System Plan Rev 15 – Sludge processing complete in FY30

Issues and Challenges Tank Closure Canister Fissile Loading – Processing limitations 897 g/m3 Sludge Batch 5 limited to 33 wt % waste loading Construction and Startup of SWPF Total Canister Production Availability of Federal Repository Recently completed acid cleaning in two type I waste tanks in F Area. Started mechanical cleaning in two type IV waste tanks in F Area (sand mantis to remove zeolite resin mounds from CRC units) - Two type IV tanks previously closed in F Area SWPF – Current operational date of May 2013. Parsons is responsible for the design, construction, and first year of operation of the facility. High Al Sludge – higher viscosity melt – lower heat transfer rate – lower melt rate – lower canister production rate - investigating new frit formulations, improvements to existing melter operation Total Canister Production – System Plan Rev 15 - 6300 canisters (with mitigation – new melter technology, higher waste loading, with Al removal) Maintaining all future canisters below 897 g/m3 - 400 additional canisters No mitigation (no new melter technology or higher waste loading) - 800 additional canisters - need to confirm numbers 2244 canisters stored in GWSB#1 (99.6% of capacity) 449 canisters stored in GWSB#2 (19.2% of capacity) GWSB #3 - needed by FY20 - Is in the planning baseline Planning Basis was to start shipments in FY 17 FY17 – 130 canisters/ year FY18 - 250 canisters / year FY19 – 500 canisters / year
