Loxton Playground Working Group Loxton Playground Working Group Proposal to Loxton Waikerie District Council Proposal to Loxton Waikerie District Council

Introduction Community Consultation Meeting Questionnaire – results: 1.Skate Park and Rear of Pioneer Gardens preferred options 2.Yes to Equipment for Disabled and Adult Exercise

Questionnaire Results Skate Park Rear of Pioneer Gardens Lions Park Centenary Sculpture

Formation of the Loxton Playground Working Group The main aim of the Working Group is to develop, plan and construct a new play area for the township of Loxton that incorporates the needs of the families and community members of Loxton. (There are at least 1000 children aged 4 – 12 in the Loxton area.) It could also offer visitors to the town an insight into Loxton and become a draw-card for tourists and people considering holidaying in our area.

Location The location we believe to be best suited to our needs is to the rear of the ‘Pioneer Rose Garden’ between Loxton Preschool, CWA, RSL, Santa’s Workshop shed and Woodleigh.

Need a Google map of the area here

Proposed Theme: ‘Pioneer Park’. The site has the existing Pioneer Rose Garden We have defined ‘Pioneer’ as a continuation of the Loxton Historical Village themes including river and early farming and irrigation activities.

E.G.

Concept / Area Design The Loxton Playground Working group decided that the following needs to be considered in a playground design: Fit in with the Loxton Waikerie District Council’s Future Directions and Community Goals and their Strategic and Development Plans

Allow children to be physically active with open areas for running, free play and ball games Provide separate areas for different types of play (e.g. dramatic, creative, group / individual, quiet and active) Offer a wide range of choice for all children in available activities A Risk analysis of any proposed designs Stimulate and challenge children

Meet the needs of all children (e.g. age appropriate, abilities, special needs. Have impact absorbing materials underneath all equipment Provide a safe and secure environment (i.e. shaded areas, fenced) Be easily supervised and encourage adult involvement

Costs / Budget The aim of the Loxton Playground Working Group is to gain funding through- - Grants - Public donations through in kind work, materials and equipment and money donations -Loxton Waikerie District Council It is important to have a detailed plan and costings drawn up.

Submission to Council We would like the Loxton Waikerie District Council to support in principle and investigate the possibility of establishment of a playground to the rear of the current Pioneer Gardens We would like the Loxton Waikerie District Council to consider in its budgetary processes for 2012, the allocation of funding to progress the development of a playground on the preferred site.
