CAREER SURVIVAL ETHICS

Why Did You Become a Police Officer? To help people, society, your community ? To be looked up to? To be admired, to be a hero? Because someone wanted you to? Because you were expected to? It was the only place hiring? You need the badge as a shield to hide behind for false courage? To have a pass to do anything you wanted to and get away with it, to be above the law?

What do you see when you look in the mirror? A Knight in blue armor with a shinning shield (badge) sworn to “Serve & Protect ? or or Someone that is owed special favors or given more rights by the citizens of America? Someone that uses the badge as a “Get it free or at a reduced price coupon”?

What Police Officers are entitled to: The salary and benefits you agreed to when taking the job. The right to no longer act without thinking of consequences like your friends and neighbors. The right of unguarded speech, to say what you feel like anytime, anyplace. The right act without regard to what people think or say.

Also You Are Given You are given the best training available to you, the most up to date methods of Policing and Law Enforcement. You are given the right by society to take away a persons FREEDOM. You are given the right to end a persons life when they commit or attempt to commit certain acts against society.

THEREFORE As a Police Officer : 1) You take an Oath, you MUST live by that Oath every minute of every day for the rest of your life as long as you wear the Badge. 2) The Badge represents all that is good about our Country. 3) Are you strong enough to keep it untarnished?

OR WILL YOU ALLOW Those not good enough to carry the Badge to trick or fool or tempt you into betrayal of your morals ? Will you sale all that it stands for to a merchant for food, goods, a movie? Will you betray those brothers and sisters willing to stand by your side and give their lives for what the Badge stands for.

THINK About the love and pride in the eyes of your wife, sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, friends when you announced that you were going to be a Police Officer and then graduated from the Academy. Think of the joy, comfort, and security the Badge of your Office brings to your loved ones. Think of how they take every opportunity to tell people that you are a Police Officer. Think of the pride and excitement when your name and sometimes picture is in the newspaper or on the evening news.

NOW THINK Of those loved ones eyes if you are in the news because of a scandal. Of trying to explain to your wife, children, parents, friends why you were suspended, arrested, or going to jail. Of all the things that you destroy when you betray the Trust of your loved ones and the Badge. How do you want to be remembered by loved ones and your community.

ARE YOU STUPID? “Forget everything you learned in the Academy…” the most common BS speech given by an FTO or senior officer. “I’ll show you the ropes” “We don’t do that way out here in the real world”. “Go on, we do it all the time…” “Hey, with what we get paid, we deserve to…”

Really Stupid Lynch & Mackenzie Meth Story Holloway & Prostitute & Click Fisher & Davis 31 Toilet Roll Lady & Officer 31 Atkins & Capt. Frank Nohee & Cohee Ed Pena & PSA Homicides Benefits River Cops Teddy Mac & 31

WHAT TO DO ? DO THE RIGHT THING. Gratuities don’t go there…leave tip See a fellow officer commit an unethical act…depending on act… 1. Confront officer commiting act. 2. Report it to your supervisor or IA. 3. Report it to the DA. 4. Report to TBI or FBI.

REMEMBER When a Police Officer commits a crime, they are no longer officers but criminals. You owe them nothing but a cuffing. You never know who is watching…and the FBI and US Attorney’s Office loves the headlines, “FBI arrest local officer (s) in corruption probe.”

How Brave Are You? Brave enough to do what is right even when everyone else is doing what is wrong? Brave enough to stand up and testify against those who turned away from the path of righteousness. Brave enough to stand alone and be a true hero?
