Why use a formulary Products reflect best practice Staff engagement ensures live and trusted document Readily available Quick, easy and efficient Continuity of care Guide / support for new or inexperienced staff Wide knowledge base / information available for products

Negates need for multiple prescriptions Cost effective Dissemination of good practice User friendly with products grouped in categories, price and quantity easily identified Timely – no wait for prescriptions Why use a formulary

How it works within SCH All areas have identified products within the formulary (favorites) that they use with set stock levels updated on a weekly basis – this system may differ for practice nurses Anything within the formulary can be ordered without FP10 Stock is delivered to base and used as required

Exception Reporting Estimated 20% of product use off formulary / secondary formulary Preserves practitioner autonomy All exceptions reviewed with a view to adding to formulary Enables reflection on practice Promotes best practice Facilitates central review from Head of Nursing

TIAG group Meets 3 monthly Facilitated by Head of Nursing Review of formulary including exception reporting Sharing of good practice and experiences – peer support Education / demonstrations from Reps around new products Qualified nurses of all bands Representation from all areas Practice nurse involvement Representation from Both CCG meds management dept Representation from TVNs at WSH and IHT
