Your parish priest and the Catholic priests through the ages are ordained priests. They are called by God and receive the sacrament of Holy Orders.

They have four dimensions of ministry, namely, disciple, apostle, presbyter and presider at the Eucharist

Apostle Disciple the priest is called to follow Jesus - he is sent to serve in the mission of the Church

Presider at the Eucharist Presbyter he is responsible for the pastoral care of the Church and her members Presider at the Eucharist he offers the sacrifice of the Mass.

Sacred Scriptures: Hebrews 5:8-10 Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered; and when he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him, declared by God as high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

Jesus is the High Priest (Heb 3:2; 4:14). “He is the unique mediator of the New Covenant between God and humankind.” (CFC 1954)

Jesus is divine, therefore, He is not only the spokesman of God Jesus is divine, therefore, He is not only the spokesman of God. He is Emmanuel, God-among-us. He is the perfect mediator, for in His being, the perfect union of God and man is fulfilled.

Jesus fulfills His being High Priest by His actions Jesus fulfills His being High Priest by His actions. His whole life was an offering to God. His death is the perfect sacrifice and His resurrection brings salvation to us all.

What is the challenge now? The challenge for us, is to make Christ’s perfect sacrifice ever present and operative in our lives. Thus our sharing in the priestly mission of Christ is an ongoing call to live a life of sacrifice.

The Church continues to call us to participate in the threefold mission of Jesus as members of the Church, namely, as prophet, king and priest. Furthermore PCP II calls us to build the Church of the Poor as a priestly community.

PCP II gives three dimensions of how we live this communal sharing in Christ’s priesthood: as a consecration - our commitment to God in everything we do as mediating God’s plan - our work to transform the world as sacrifice of life together with Christ - our task to celebrate in the Eucharist

As a prophet? As a King? As a Priest? How are we going to participate in the threefold mission of Jesus as members of the Church? As a prophet? As a King? As a Priest?

SUMMARY: JESUS AS A PROPHET Jesus as a prophet spoke of God’s word backed up with deeds of power and life witnessing JESUS AS A PROPHET In the Holy Communion we unite with Jesus Christ who brings us into true life

SUMMARY: JESUS AS A PROPHET Christ commissioned His disciples to carry on His works, to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to respond in His call

As a Priest . . . Jesus is uniquely high priest by his very being and actions. (CFC, 1955) “Christ gives the dignity of a Royal Priesthood to the people He has made His own…” (Preface, Chrism Mass) We offer worship to God in the Eucharist by receiving the sacraments, and by offering prayers and thanksgiving.

As a Priest . . . In sharing Christ’s priestly ministry we are called to do good and avoid evil. (CFC, 1960)

Jesus is a king who serves As a King . . . Jesus is a king who serves Jesus as king is the model of loving service . Jesus as king calls us to praise His Father.
