Industrial Revolution Slide Lecture-II

The Early Industrial Age Changes in Rural (Farming) Population Devastated by Plague and needed to become more efficient About 1700 Great Britain began to study farming as a science Rotated Crops (invented by Charles Townshend) Mixed different types of soil, grew different types of crops Made it easier to produce food (and COTTON) More food was available for the masses Population almost doubled between This increased the demand for textiles (woven or knitted cloth used to make clothing, blankets, and other goods) More efficient ways to produce textiles came about and soon textile factories opened up. By the 1780s, England and Scotland had over 120 textile factories Their success led merchants of other products to develop new machines and create factories to increase their profits
